Hi - just about to take over the chair at my club and one thing on my list is to upgrade our practice net, ideally replace with new double bay net but subject to cost we may need to update the existing net and build one new one. I am based in West Sussex - does anyone have any experience of developing new net facilities and any company recommendations? Thanks all

We used Total Play to install a 3-lane fully enclosed facility. Notts Sports were also recommended to us

Always tough to find grant funding for a scoreboard but I have seen it happen on occasion, happy to have a look, drop me a message mate

To hook onto the nets question: I'm in EC of a cricket club in Austria and we're also looking to overhaul our nets in the coming season. Any advice for continental clubs here what to do? We have 2 lanes where the runup is slightly skewed and we have to level that a bit.

I want to have some sort of flexible pvc coated metal fencing behind the net for at least the first metre in hight and of course put a net roof onto it. We'll be renewing the lanes. Here's what it looks like as of today:

Don't worry about the hung up nets, that's just to make sure the snow and wind dont eat away the nets.

We work with a lot of European clubs and cricket boards through our work with ICC Europe, and can happily assist on a supply only basis, or even coming over to install.

To have roof netting you will need metalwork at the top between the uprights to create a cage structure, rather than just upright posts as you have currently.

Just back on this as we still haven't sorted out our net.

We have been speaking to the ECB approved supplier who installed the net for months now and despite promises will not come and visit the club to survey the options for repair, replace like for like or look at something completely new.

As we are based in West Sussex we are finding it hard for any company to come and visit us - we dont want to purely deal with this over phone or email like a few companies have suggested as its a big commitment for us and want to do the right thing.

So for anyone based in the South of England who have you used who will visit this part of the world! thanks

Seems to me that most companies who do this work are based in the midlands. That said we had no trouble getting companies to travel to South Wales for a site survey. When you�re spending �30k+ it�s not much to ask.

A club near us has secured funding and ready to go, but there is a 12-15 month wait for them. It seems that there is a massive drive on nets being built/renewed/etc. so could be why it is hard to get someone out in the first place these days.

Thanks for replies and suspected there was a lot of work going on funded via the various Covid grants that had been available in last year or two.

Also been quoted �400 up front for a site visit and survey. Whilst would get deducted off final cost if went ahead our normal process for expenditure would require at least two quotes so a fair amount to spend with risk not returned.

Are they made of gold?

We are booked ahead, but 12 to 15 months sounds like whoever the order is being placed with probably doesn't want to do it.

We wouldn't be able to hold a price for that long for a start, aggregate, steel, carpet, netting, fuel, all are likely to continue to rise in price over the next year or so.
