Lockdown bat buying.
« on: November 12, 2020, 08:33:46 AM »

Been trying to buy less bats this year, mostly as nothing has come close to ousting by Ben Stokes player edition as my number 1, but still find it hard to say no to a 'bargain'.

As such I've aquired 4 bats recently. None of which are yet in my hands (bloody corona) so no grumbling about the photos please.

The first one is one of Graeme White (Northants) old bats, a lad who'd played Northants 2nds for a couple of years was selling off a load of old kit including a few bats he'd be given by teammates. He was sponsored by Spyder at the time but I've no idea if it's a Spyder made bat or not. Will get some better photos up when I have it in my hands and I guess someone will know.

It's 2'8 and looks a pretty Normal bat in terms of size, shape and grains. It's at my parents so asking them about ping would be pointless  :D

Joe Burns
The first time I broke my self inflicted bat ban was when this came up on eBay at around half the price of buying one new, nevermind shipping and customs. It's 2'11 but a big bat even for that weight. I found that it was pretty bottom heavy compared to the Stokes so I removed thye tape on the handle and bound it properly and reshaped the toe a touch, sacrilidge I know, but it's a better bat for it  :D

One of my old mates from home sponsors George Munsey's bats so I've been in his ear for ages to see if he can pick me up a broken/discarded one to see what it's like. What I did not expect was to be given one right out of the wrapper. It's 2'13 so presumably was a touch on the heavy side for him, seemingly performs well and pick up decent for the weight, grains coming out of it's ears.

I had then throughly promised myself that I wouldn't be buying anymore bats (unless they were MEGA bargains) when this popped up on eBay last night. Given how in love with the one I currently have I am I couldn't resist.

Will come back to the thread with proper photos and reviews after the arrive and I've had a chance to have a hit with them.

Cannot imagine even Munsey being able to reverse sweep like he does with a 2lb 13 bat so you might be on to something 😂

He’s a big old lad, reckon he doesn’t use light bats anyway, maybe 2’11/12. Have you seen the one Alex just made him?  :o :o

EDIT - ain’t no way this is 2’8 🤣

Theses a video of this on his insta, well worth a look. It’s bonkers.

I was looking at the Ben Stokes PE bat myself last night Kulli and you knabbed it before I could! I'd enquired on the weight as wasn't stated and it had sold before I heard back! :)

True, he's a big lad. Almost seems a bit unfair him playing at Grange given the size of their boundaries and the fact their outfield is like glass 😅

Size of the shoulders on that bat, Jesus...

I’d told myself I’d only buy another bat if it was a GM PE at a bargain price. He reckons it’s 2’10, will see when it arrives over the weekend.

I had to bowl to Ollie Hairs at the Grange once, that was enough. Glad I left before George arrived 😁

Christ, that must have been 'fun'. Think he got about 130 off about 35 balls in a Scotland A game this year.

We got him run out for about 60 off 30, but not before he’s out me to the sword.

I do have a lot of time for the fact he's basically living the dream of every 3rd team slogger while also being absolutely class.

Not sure I'm a fan of the 'knocked in by Vulcan stickers'

Yes he generally uses around 2'11, but could easily wield something heavier, he's a big lad and very talented. Hits a golf ball just as far right handed as he does left handed!

Yup, that’ll be coming off when I get my grubby mitts on it. Have said I’ll only keep max 4 bata for personal use, so got some serious decisions to make over the winter.
