It certainly looks like it to me from the pics you have posted, i would also be a little concerned that its that close the the splice.

In general iv had a few storm damaged bats and most have lasted a decent amount of time ( actually got a Salic one that’s a net bat that must be 7/8 years old now so if it was a cheap option than it may be fine but I personally wouldn’t want Storm damage near the splice, much rather near the toe if i had to pick

Yes it’s storm damage,

Position of it doesn’t really matter to the overall longevity of the bat, it’s impossible to say if it will go after 1 ball or 1000.

If you paid anything more than bargain price, or if you werent told about it, then I’d be sending it back.

Sorry to hear that, it would be quite obvious to someone who has been around a lot of willow that this is storm damaged so they either don't know what they're talking about or they're just having you on - hopefully they'll let you return the bat without quibble.

They're likely picking these up cheap from whoever the manufacturer is knowing they're factory seconds/damaged with the aim to flog on for a profit, hopefully it's a one off but can never be too careful nowadays - the amount of cowboys out there peddling rubbish willow or selling second rate "professional" refurb jobs at the moment is rising rapidly (and obviously all doing it cash in hand/away from the tax man further screwing over any brands trying to actually do things legitimately).

Rant over :)

Looks a decent bit of willow, but unfortunately it’s looking like quite a bit of storm damage is visible

As has already been said, the bats longevity is always gonna be a lottery, my son has one that was used by a few on here, that’s still going strong and must have ten times the normal bat use on it, as it’s his net bat.
But they’ve gotta be sold at a discount because of the Storm damage
Heartbreaking tbh,, as I’ve seen some stunning clefts with it in

the seller has accepted the return of the bat.. it was bought as a plain bat from a seller on ebay who probably knew it was storm damaged but decided to sell it to me anyway, but no issues as he has accepted return

Do all storm damaged clefts result in breaks?

No not all, the chances are certainly higher as the structure of the fibres has been compromised during growth but as Northern Monkey has mentioned with his sons bat and one of mine they can last as per normal clefts. Personally I feel it’s a mix of where in the blade the storm damage actually is and also the type of batsmen you are. If it’s in a vulnerable area and you are attacking and go after the ball more then say a stroke player the odds in my opinion are stacked against it lasting as long.

Agree with others, it's a lottery. Had 3 break within a couple of months, 2 of them I knew and took a chance, 1 of them was hand picked from IJC I just used presuming it was good willow-after it broke I looked closer and could see the stress marks high up on the bat.

But I got one direct from Salix and had that 2 years and still going once I sold it to a team mate...

Anything high up or near the splice in my opinion is going to break.
