Video recording club games
« on: January 21, 2021, 03:38:35 PM »

Hello folks,

My club is planning to record all their T20 games (around 4 hours duration) in the upcoming season.

I need your thoughts on what sort of camera plus accessories should we purchase while on a medium budget (1000 ish).

Going Live may not happen this year as a good wifi/internet connection is not available where we play. But will do Live for 2022 onwards for sure.

Cheers,

These pitch vision/frog box solutions are quite a lot of money for not a very good image. Sure they're easier to use and the added graphics are quite nice, but no-one really watches the full game post match.

For best entertainment you can't beat an edited game filmed by a cameraman, but it takes up quite a bit of time to get a finished video.  I've got a reasonable video camera setup - Sony PXW-X70 with ECM-MS2 microphone, Manfrotto tripod and video head. From what I've learned, the shotgun microphone with wind muff is essential, as the inbuilt microphone suffers with wind buffeting and is not focused enough to get good audio, from out in the middle. The video stats provided by Youtube where I've uploaded to, show content is mainly consumed via mobile therefor filming in 4k is an overkill, a camera that delivers good quality HD footage in low light conditions is all that you'll need.  Keep videos to around the 20 minute mark, as that's about all the audience will manage to watch. Like being a groundsman, it'll become a thankless task.

Has anyone on the forum got experiences of PoE IP Cameras?

Obviously the quality won’t match up to decent camcorder with cameraman. But it will offer a waterproof and unmanned operation for a live stream.
