Inch shorter blade bats
« on: February 04, 2021, 08:01:28 PM »

Having had a couple of bats made up to roughly the same idea as the GN Pro Performance (1 inch shorter blade, standard SH handle), just wondering if anyone knows if there are any other companies offering this as a stock option?

Have seen a fair few offering variations of one inch shorter blade, one inch longer handle but nobody bar GN seems to offer the short blade, standard handle combo. Cheers badgers.

Only two I've ever seen were about half an inch shorter overall but supposedly the problem is inconsistency. Some will be shorter, some standard SH, etc.

I've effectively ordered these from B3 and Chase. Not quite an inch shorter but harrow length blade (540mm) with standard mens handle. I also have them in harrow width to save weight but I'm sure you could choose not to!

Have just about convinced myself not to spend any more on bats this year mate 😂 asking more out of curiosity really. That said, what weight were you able to get the B3s in with the shorter blade set up?

Not quite off the shelf but Laver & Wood have that option. They have some special offers on the Mega profile and Butterfly bats at the moment.

Got a Keeley SH here with 540mm blade, full profile and 2lb.9oz. So they could make you something.

Also have a UK Masuri Ton SH which has 545mm blade, same weight but with a small bit of concaving.

If only Laver and Wood was in my price range!

I've got a Keeley made BB that's much the same as yours, just a touch lighter. Lovely bat but I'm not quite bad enough for gear acquisition that I'd buy another one the same 😅

My Laver was a lucky second hand find from someone who was leaving the game. To avoid temptation, I no longer search for Laver on ebay, gumtree etc. .

I had a very nice BB butterfly. Still don't understand why I sold it.

2lb 8 with the harrow width blade and they're big! Some pictures below:

Cheers, did you pay the SH prices for them or was it any cheaper with the harrow size blade?

It is incredibly easy to chop an inch off the handle. I wouldn’t let the “longer handle” part be an obstacle to getting shorter blade bats.

^ Doesn't it affect the balance of the bat?

I've done this with a couple of bats, like you say it's not too difficult but it is  extra mucking around. If there's any one inch longer, one inch shorter bat models that come to mind would be happy to hear them though!
