Pakistan vs South Africa T-20 Series 2021
« on: April 04, 2021, 10:09:01 PM »

Very entertaining series so far!

South Africa hammered Pakistan's bowling attack in the second T-20 but a great come back by Pak batting.

Is that even legal? De Kock seems to have a knack for creating mischief.

Illegal as of 2017 (fake fielding rule) I think.

Dubious but, IMO, very clever way round the rules from De Kock. He can claim he was instructing his team mate to throw to the other end and they ignored him, we see this every week at all levels of cricket, fielder doesn't acknowledge a call from either the bowler or keeper.

The rule, I believe, is about intent to deceive and De Kock is probably within his rights to claim that he was just trying to shout instructions to a fielder, rather than trying to trick Zaman.

I think everyone knows exactly what his intent was.  Even the SA captain said "Yeah, it was clever from Quinny", when he did nothing to contribute to the runout except for the deception.

After making 194 you could forgive Fakar for taking the last couple steps easy when he thought the action was up the other end.

You question what the point in the law is if the umpires won't enforce it.

QDK fooled FZ! Nothing wrong with it!

By the laws of the game, there actually is something wrong with it...

https://www.lords.org/mcc/the-laws-of-cricket/unfair-play

41.5 Deliberate distraction, deception or obstruction of batsman

41.5.1 In addition to 41.4, it is unfair for any fielder wilfully to attempt, by word or action, to distract, deceive or obstruct either batsman after the striker has received the ball.

41.5.2 It is for either one of the umpires to decide whether any distraction, deception or obstruction is wilful or not.

41.5.3 If either umpire considers that a fielder has caused or attempted to cause such a distraction, deception or obstruction, he/she shall immediately call and signal Dead ball and inform the other umpire of the reason for the call.

41.5.4 Neither batsman shall be dismissed from that delivery.

41.5.5 If an obstruction involves physical contact, the umpires together shall decide whether or not an offence under Law 42 (Players’ conduct) has been committed.

41.5.5.1 If an offence under Law 42 (Players’ conduct) has been committed, they shall apply the relevant procedures in Law 42 and shall also apply each of 41.5.7 to 41.5.9.

41.5.5.2 If they consider that there has been no offence under Law 42 (Players’ conduct), they shall apply each of 41.5.6 to 41.5.10.

41.5.6 The bowler’s end umpire shall

- award 5 Penalty runs to the batting side.

- inform the captain of the fielding side of the reason for this action and as soon as practicable inform the captain of the batting side.

41.5.7 The ball shall not count as one of the over.

41.5.8 Any runs completed by the batsmen before the offence shall be scored, together with any runs for penalties awarded to either side.  Additionally, the run in progress shall be scored whether or not the batsmen had already crossed at the instant of the offence.

41.5.9 The batsmen at the wicket shall decide which of them is to face the next delivery.

41.5.10 The umpires together shall report the occurrence as soon as possible after the match to the Executive of the offending side and to any Governing Body responsible for the match, who shall take such action as is considered appropriate against the captain, any other individuals concerned and, if appropriate, the team.

But that is the whole point, right there in the rules!

It is down to the umpires interpretation, they clearly saw nothing wrong with what QDK did. Whether you, or I, or anyone for that matter think different, they are the ones that matter when it comes to this rule.

For my 2penneth for what it's worth, QDK did nothing wrong, he pointed, called whatever for the fielder to throw to the other end, and the fielder did the opposite. How many times has that happened in club cricket? Every single game! The fact Fakar wasn't paying attention isn't QDK's fault.

Tell me again how De Kock was totally not trying to dupe anyone?

In club cricket, calls and throws to keeper end up at the opposite end because club cricketers aren't very good. :D Also, there is no intent to deceive the batsmen. They can barely make legal plays well, let alone try something devious.

I always enjoy the shout of "keeper" when it goes down the ground.
The bloke at long on/off can barley get it back to the bowler, So everyone knows there's no danger of a run out at the other end! :D
