And there maybe something to be said for an 'older and wiser' second go. I dunno, it seems a long time since it's been tried?

I don't think that you can be as loose around your off stump as Lyth is and open the batting in test match cricket in England.

Warner and Sehwag have very strong test records but they average 27 and 26 respectively in England.  There is a very strong argument that neither would have had long test careers had they played half their games in English conditions

I don't think it's that he is particularly loose around off, more that - in keeping with a lot of middle order players who have converted to open - his natural instinct is to play assertively, so the hands sometimes get ahead of where they need to be. As I said, if we had a couple more injuries in the middle order, he would be a high class option. As an opener... I'd cheer for him. But logically I'd give that berth to someone younger.

I think you'd want to take experienced, tough cricketers  to Australia. For that reason, I'd love Adam Lyth to have a big season.

Lyth continues his good form in the latest match and great to see a return after quite a long time for Gaz Ballance with a 36no at the end of he day for Yorkshire.

Solid 51no from Hasseb also, before anyone piles in not even going to mention England, just a good season for Notts needed  :)

Bedingham with the bat and Rushworth with the ball carrying Durham again. Another reasonable first innings score from Durham, let’s see if they can actually get the win from here now.

For those of you who like an average: Root averaging 25 in the 'low quality' County Championship.  :o

Great to see Hameed back in the runs for Nots Ton in the 1st innings and 50no in the second. Despite it being what 4 years since his Test debut and series in India he is still on most people’s radar as a test opener.

As for the rest of the current teat side that are playing quite a few are struggling at the moment most noticeable Rory Burns & Zak Crawley who I think have one 50+ score each so far this season. Early I know but fingers crossed comes good for them or some of the players in form at top of the order for some of these county sides could get a shot.

It's a good job it's only those dodgy Indian pitches they struggle with, eh?

More runs for Hameed, really nice to see him back enjoying his cricket.

Yep a ton in each innings. If he can continue this form he could well find his form coming at the right time with Sibley injured and a doubt for NZ series and Burns well out of form. Haven’t seen much of him since that India series but he certainly looked good back then.

He's had a shocking few years but seems to be much closer to the player everyone thought he could be.

That said, Bracey has been in great nick so if they're looking for top order replacements I think he'd still be my first choice at the moment. Done his time carrying drinks in the bubbles, deserves a crack at test cricket IMO.
