Don’t think Hameed should be anyway near England selection. Let him rebuild his confidence with Lancashire. Hameed should be looking for a 1000 run season with maybe another 2-3 hundreds. Then be in the mix for the Ashes.

With Sibley injured and Burns in poor nick, I think any top 3 bats in England will be thinking they've got a chance to put their name into contention. Will take more than a few good knocks, including from Hameed, granted.

Great run chase by Northants.

Match-winning performances by Bess and Parkinson.

unlikely, given he left Lancashire two seasons ago!

Don't let little details like knowing who people play for get in the way of your assessment of a player, eh? :D

When does Vasconcelos qualify for England? Looks a serious player.

Don't know the qualification period but from Wikipedia he has a Portuguese passport which I think makes it quicker than a normal South African born player.

I guess he is non overseas here meaning he can play first class in South Africa, or some similar level there.

I'm sure someone on here knows more thou.

Think he signed in 2018 so would he qualify this year/next year?

Sam Robson having a cheeky little start to the season

Toby Rojo also showing what he has to offer when fully fit -  #babyAngus

And for those left-hander fetishists - George Garton an interesting prospect.

Garton's action is mesmerising in the same way that watching snakes strike in slow motion is. Just seems to defy physics.

I don't get why having a Portuguese passport still makes Vasconcelos non-overseas?

I could explain. But it's really complex and, tbh, really quite boring.

ECB eligibility regulations, to become a qualified player (ie not one of the permitted overseas players) - "they are either: (i) a British or Irish citizen; or (ii) an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen
with settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme".

Imagine that rule is probably something to do with legal requirements not to restrict players who are entitled to work in the UK.

I thought Brexit might have changed this arrangement. That was all. I suppose the ECB are free to determine their own qualification requirements and it's nothing to do with employment law?

Must admit I thought this had changed, as Balbarnie and Stirling are now classed as overseas aren't they??

Stirling definitely is, but wouldn't have been if he'd been prepared to give up his international career in the same way that Tim Murtagh did.
