Saturday was incredibly frustrating. We bowled first and had them 67-5 then 95-8, they somehow got to 142 thanks to some loose bowling and some good batting from their number 6 who got stranded very close to a half ton. They were also helped by several dropped catches. Reasonably happy with my 2-26 off 10.

In response we went absolutely nowhere against some fairly disciplined bowling, I walked in at 51-6 off 25ish overs and hit a quickfire 18 as part of a partnership of 27 off 5 overs as the momentum started to swing in our favour. As we had been stealing a lot of quick singles they brought a man in close and I then slapped one straight at him as we collapsed to 95 all out. Properly gutted as I didn't feel troubled by the pitch or the bowlers and still had another 15 or so overs to score 65ish, it was also my chance to prove why I should be batting higher than 8,9 or 10...

So you're amazed by that terrific partnership 🤔, I'm sure if your bowlers were good enough, that would wouldn't have happened!

I mean, you're not wrong! Thanks for the analysis coach :)

so when you have the team 5 down for bugger all.. why skittle them? said 'gun' batter isn't going to be in at 6/7....

Sunday gone in the second tier of our leagues Sunday structure, we played against a former county 2nd team player and minor counties player who is regional performance coach for Northern Diamonds and recently a coach for Hong Kong’s national side. He came in at 7 to allow the regular players a knock before he came in. Safe to say the gulf in class was plain to see. I somehow managed to have him dropped off my bowling once though which I took as a small personal victory.

But the moral of the story, it does sometimes happen.

Premier league game in a league weakened overall in recent years.

Played a side with an ex pro - played a few games for Worcs some years ago. He proceeded to score 84 off 60 odd balls in a score of 233-5 off 40 overs. He then took 9 wkts for 8 runs, absolutely skittling us, all bowled, all 80mph yorkers. Included giving a send off to one of our batters.

What do you get out of absolutely dominating a game clearly far below the level you should be playing at? As a team mate, what are you getting out of a game where you are a vehicle for his ego?

Rant over!

Another rough day as we are now winless in our 4 league games. They batted first and made just shy of 200. I bowled 5 overs and went at about 10 an over as two set batsmen went after me in the last few overs. I then stubbed my finger on the ground fielding and it hurt to move.

Decided to drop down to 5 to give the ice some time to work, but still couldn’t hold the bat with my top hand. Spooned a ‘bouncer’ from a medium pacer straight up into the air for 2. We fell about 70 short.

We looked so disinterested in the field, easily cost ourselves 20 runs with our shambolic fielding. The only bright side is I’ll probably be out next week with my finger, so I can have a break!

Nice win away against 3rd in the league which I think takes us top. Scored 76 batting 5, putting on 157 in about 25 overs with our 19 year old number 4, who is shaping up to be a class player. What made it even more sweet is we were birth using my bats! 👌

I was also using a Scott today! Didn't score many runs but put on a match winning partnership with our number 3 batting at 8. Nothing like a defensive shot that turns into a punch for 1 because the bat has such a nice middle!

Interesting weekend where I finally managed double figures on Saturday but then was one of six batsmen out who played on. Really cheesed off because I had just nailed an extra cover drive and this ball should have also been hitting the fence. However I learnt afterwards that this was the first match on this wicket for 10 years which might account for how two-paced it was.  Only 2 guys got 50s, opposition opener batted the entire innings for 57no then our No.7 got about the same score off 25 deliveries but had the common-sense to dance down and take the wicket out of the equation. However no-one else (on our side) really contributed anything substantial and we ended up losing by 30 runs.

Today I opened for my Sunday side and back to a single figure score again as a 13 year old left arm seamer had me on toast before I finally nicked him and was caught behind. In fairness I thought I was clean bowled first ball with a delivery that swung in very late but it must have done too much. We won but in reality the match today was about giving the opposition juniors opportunities (they are starting a 4th XI next season) and one 13 year old took his as he smashed his way to 50 runs.

Great day today. Bowled 4 over of filth, then put my back out and was unable to bat.
