Info on MSR cricket bats

Does anyone rate or has used MSR made cricket bats?

The prices seem  cheap and I was tempted to give one a try. Don’t know if £100 or thereabouts for a bat is too good to be true. Just seen this one for sale :

I've bought around 10 bats from Steve MSR, didn't have any issue with any of them. You will find his bats as described!

I’ve had 2 and they were both planks. A grade 1 and a butterfly

Might be they're not right profile for you, don't know.
Before I bought anything from Steve, I had many messages exchanged with him, even talked to him, about his setup etc.

The profile has nothing to do with whether a bat is responsive or not. If there's no sweet spot to speak of, then it's a plank.

Nothing to do with the profile, they were just planks.
Due to the volume of bats they have, there will be some great ones and some absolute trash. If possible, use a forum sponsor to source your gear.

I bought a unique 2lb 4oz SH bat few years back. Loved it as it had an amazing punch for the weight.
Handle broke after 5 or 6 games. Didn't bother contacting him as it was cheap as chips. Most likely won't buy from them again.

Bats often very good but seen planks too. Had a few myself that were mostly very good, none of them lasted long at all. Wouldn't spend as much as £100 on one personally, think there's better options for your money elsewhere.

Bought 5 butterfly bats,
A first XI player, straight away wanted to buy and then bought it!
Grains on all of them were great, especially on this one and it did play remarkably well.
Best grains I've seen on a butterfly bat! One had 21 grains.
It's all about personal experience.

"It's all about personal experience", so effectively "might be good, might be awful, might be somewhere in between".

@edge has it spot on, at £100 there's better, more reliable options for your money. An extra £30 odd quid would get you a brand new GM Signature bat for example.

Storm damaged 17 grains big knot on the back goes bloody well £70 quid

Very hit and miss but Steve is good to deal with another mate got one and it was a plank.

Good enough for our pro this year horses for courses really I would ask him to pick a belter if possible but if people are charging daft prices they become much more attractive.

Steve was a top player and has handled many a bat my advice ask him to pick you out one that plays well

How on earth can you buy willow from a reputable dealer in the UK, ship it out to Pakistan, have them made, have them shipped back to the UK, and then flog them for £100 a pop? It doesn’t make sense to me.

Lower grade willow can less than £10 a cleft, and the handles are pretty cheap too.

MSR are Pakistani made bats, generally not a great finish and pretty woeful handles. If you're interested in getting lower grade Pakistani bats you can import similar (not sure where MSR source from) directly from AS Sports or someone for about $25 USD per bat.

Steve is an honest person, doesn't hide anything.
He's working in cooperation with his son and ex Pakistan player, their factory in Lahore, they make their own bats!
You will be lucky now to get something under £100, these days, even from him!
Didn't find anything wrong with handles as well, used them all for 2 years!
