hi, just wanted peoples opinions regarding the sweep shot, i find its the most difficult shot to play consistently, also i think its the most effective shot against good spin bowling in terms of rotating strike? which i think is very important in club cricket, i find myself often bogged down against good off spin and struggle to rotate strike, i desperatly want to improve playing the sweep, any tips on improving this shot and rotating strike against spin bowling in general

Funny enough I love sweeping spinner, being myself an off spinner 😀
You have to be on aggressive mode to see the line and length of the delivery and quickly take a leading foot in the line of it and sweep.
Most of the times delivery should be flighted, to make it a half volley, this is just the traditional way.
You need to be in forward playing mode, as much possible.
You gonna miss it is there's any hesitation.
So the best way would be have 2 shots in your mind: sweep or dab to backward square leg area, for an easy single.
First thing is to see what the pitch is doing and from there onwards try to unsettle bowler, by moving, changing guard etc.
I've been finishing my overs within a minute, when things were going tight 😀 the season before.

As very much a non-sweeper i can't offer much advice but i did once get some good advice from a former overseas pro at our club. In fact he used the sweep shot as an example. He said if you want to learn and perfect a new shot then get in the net and play that shot to every single ball you face. You'll soon learn which balls, lines and lengths you can use that shot against.

Maybe try that and see how it goes. You might get out a lot or even get hit a fair amount but hopefully you might learn to master the shot.

That's one way to do it!
For starter it would be better for looking for middle leg deliveries.

Head over the front knee, hands high, let the bat flow through the ball.

I sweep on line, anything outside off stump is a free sweep, anything targeting the stumps and its a more risky shot.

General rule of thumb: paddle sweep to a flatter quicker delivery, hard sweep or slog sweep need more flight. Generally, the closer to off stump the ball is, the squarer you can try to hit it.

It all depends on the flight and the length of the ball, you can even sweep from outside the off stumps, but you must be looking out to sweep anything in the reach.

Riskier will be playing the 2nd sweep to the same bowler!  Most likely he'll adjust his line and length.

Yes many will do that
why not give one more flighted delivery? but then slower one?

It's a 'plan' that can actually work in lower level cricket. I hate facing that sort of bowling. But bowlers are rarely so honest?
