Opinions please Fellas!
« on: May 05, 2021, 10:51:00 AM »

Hello all!

As you may have seen in another thread, my BB has gone at the toe.

I bought it in 2019, oiled & knocked in. Used it in 2 nets that season but used a different match for 2019/2020.

I decided it was going to be my match bat this season, but after 6 games it’s completely gone in two places.

Took it into Hunts County for a repair, he was very honest with me and said there’s no point spending £35 for a repair as it’ll only go again soon after.

He recommended sending it back if it’s only been used a handful of times.

My question is; is it realistic to send it back or am I just going to have to take this one on the chin?

Thanks fellas!

If it was bought two years ago and appears to have had some of the stickers removed, I would maybe be a bit dubious about whether any retailer would take it back?

Tbh, that looks like some really bad yorker damage - did you try to smash one and end up toeing it? You're only covered for a year by warranty, and many companies don't cover yorker damage IIRC, so you'd be lucky to get anything back.

Just drop them a message and see what they say, maybe they'll sort you out with a new one at a discounted rate or something. Probably a bit ambitious seeing as it was purchased in 2019 though!

Strange thing is I don’t remember any Yorkers in the 4/5 overs before I noticed it had gone!

Yeh did think it may be ambitious, just gutted that a £200 bat has only lasted a handful of games

Discount on replacement purchase is probably the best you're going to get

It’s a 2 year old bat. If BB offered you anything at all I would be amazed. Looking at picture 5, there are multiple cherries right on, and very near to the toe - BB shouldn’t offer sort of discount, as to me it looks entirely your (or your yorker bowling net buddies) fault.

Yes I agree that it’s optimistic after two years.

Not sure what you want me to do regarding Yorkers though? Just leave them in the game?

You could repair it but as suggested due to the damage running towards the edge its pretty much cooked.

It all depends on the available warranty from where it was purchased, worth picking up the phone!?

I personally don't get taking a bat back to the retailer unless it's a obvious fault in the product. A bat could last 10 years or 10 balls. Especially when yorkers are involved. Guess I should never become a retailer as my customer service for this type of thing would be appalling.

Suspect if it lasted ten balls and you'd knocked it in properly then most bats would still be in warranty 😅

I wouldn't take a bat back after 2 years even if it was only used for a short while. It's just one of those things we take a chance with bats there's no guarantee they won't go like this.

If it was my bat even thou it does look bad I would get a second opinion if I can be repaired.

@LEACHY48 and @WalkingWicket37 are both really good, I know both they won't say it can be repaired and last if it can't be.

I'd def ask one or both of these members on here first.

Or go to Hunts?

Tbh mate, its a case of: "could last 1 ball, could last 1 season" no one can tell you how viable a repair would be on a bat with this damage accurately. Id happily repair it for you, but id also maybe echo the sentiments of Hunts when they said its likely to go again. The join itself would be stronger than the wood it was binding together, but it would more than likely go in a different location near the crack.

He has already been to Hunts, but the above post was just giving him advice on seeking a second opinion, which as it happened was the same, but still worth asking the question.

Yeh i think I’m just gonna have to take the loss on this one. Suppose there’s no point spending money on it if it’s likely to go again.

Thankfully haven’t got a game this weekend so I’ve got time to sort another bat
