New Spikes
« on: August 10, 2021, 08:56:55 PM »

After having a pair of New Balance CK10s fall apart within 12 months I’m after a new pair of spikes.

Been looking around and saw the Adidas 22YRDs which meet my requirements but it seems they’re sold out everywhere in a UK10:
  • Full spikes
  • Batting/fielding specific

Does anyone have any suggestions for other spikes that are available at the moment in the UK?

I've been impressed with my Payntrs. They are the X mk 3 which are discontinued so difficult to get hold of.  They have a new range.  Maybe the 124 or 263 model are appropriate?  Or any Asics - but they are really thin on the ground because of supply issues.  Puma also seem to get really good reviews.

Asics are thin on the ground because they pulled out of the UK/European cricket market in 2017/18.

Thanks, not the biggest fan of the Gray Nics spikes from what I saw.

As for ASICS, seems a baffling decision to pull out of a big market - any idea why they did that?

It isn't that big a market for them when you consider running shoes etc is their main thing. Cricket is a fairly niche sport. From speaking to them at the time I think they'd have been happy with getting 40-50% of the UK market, but that was never going to happen up against Adidas, New Balance, Puma and at the time, Nike. Not to mention Payntr and the cricket brands picking a few sales.

Shame, I only have the cheap ASICS spikes and they're brilliant.

I currently have a pair of Asics Gel Advance 6 spikes and they have been great for about 4 years now.

They are feeling the pace a little bit so I have started looking for a new pair, as mentioned I have found getting hold of Asics is tricky now which is a shame.

Did look at the Payntr 263's which seem to get good reviews, would love to know how much they weigh in comparison to the Asics i currently have as these are the lightest spikes i've ever had.

@shark79 I have some SL22 in a 10.5 if they are of interest?

I’ve found the newer ones to come up a little smaller than other models.
