XPro bats on Instagram
« on: September 22, 2021, 08:56:05 PM »

Hi All,

Wondering if anyone has stumbled across ‘xpro bats’ on Instagram?

They supposedly have access to professional crickets bats and sell them (without any authenticity) for a fairly low price. I assume the professionals they belonged to, or were made for, are okay with them being sold.

Does anyone here have any inside knowledge on this, whether it’s legitimate? Unsure how someone can collect a large amount of professional quality bats and go under the radar.

Haven’t heard Of them, and I would be very careful tbh. If it’s too good to be true….

I’m aware of them, haven’t used them to buy anything. My understanding he tries his luck at contacting pros and buying their gear and then just sells it on for profit.

Not surprising the Pros are happy to sell clothes they get so much gear.

As for the bats… same with any “pro” bats, just because it was given to a pro doesn’t make it any better or worse than one you can get your hands on from any decent batmaker.

This 100 percent. The bats aren't really going to be any better than a quality bat from a reputable batmaker and certainly won't make accounts game improve drastically.  The whole fascination with 'pro' bats really does baffle me at times.

Not saying this is the case here but it's now become a thing, with bats advertised as 'pro' bats left right and centre. You can have no idea where or who they've come from/were intended for (unless you believe a sharpie! 😆)

I can the logic for a potential buyer though. In theory the best bats should go to the pros to perform with on the biggest stages. I understand that’s how people might think.

Also these are cheaper thank the same quality sold privately (assumption), so I can see why it’s peaks peoples interest.

But then the pros also get sent a lot of bats, you'd imagine they keep the real top ones for themselves and are happy to punt the ones they're not so bothered about.

Having been lucky/ unlucky (delete as appropriate) to have worked in the county game.

I have seen some of the bats dished out to various pros, one player who will remain nameless didn't even realize his bat was broken it was that much of a plank! (side note: he loved it...)

Some players were lucky and got some great bats, others scrambled round and scrounged off team mates as the bats sent by the sponsors were poor. But just like the rest of us, a few low scores and it was the bats fault so time for something different :D

Seen some of his tick tok videos abs he advertised low density at 2lb 13oz so think he just uses buzz words to try and talk up the bats, no doubt some are better than others but the chances of a poor quality bat these days is minimal having mainly used G3 and G4 bats the last few years they play as well as G1 when pressed correctly.

Seems every Keeley on eBay is a pro bat these days, the fact is they could use a 606 grade for example and still score runs. We have seen international players using butterfly clefts recently so often I’m sure they just get sent stock bats and only the top top players get the pick if they are even bothered.

Heard that cook and KP for example just picked on pick up only but someone like Root and Marnus are very fussy but who knows

having seen a few he sold/listed on ebay - they look ok, but they seemed overpriced if the word 'pro' wasn't in the title - better value just buying a 'normal' 2nd hand one on ebay or getting one made from someone on here

Careful, people will start thinking you're some way affiliated to XPro bats! 😆

I've had a bat that was genuinely destined for a pro. The grains looked lovely and was gorgeous... I sold it..

- Just because its a pro bat, it wasn't made for you (unless it is exactly what you wanted  ;) ) so from the off you may not get on with it
- Sometimes pros adjust their shape etc.. for certain tours so again what kind of wicket are you playing on...
- As people have mentioned pros could bat with a grade 4 and still get runs...

If you are fussy I'd suggest the custom route and gets something made up for you... unless you can pick it up and feel you are going to get on with it I wouldn't personally bother...

... but as always do what makes you happy ;)

ive only ever had one 'pro' bat, and i use that term loosely as he was our overseas and by no means a pro. it was given to him by kookaburra but he picked it himself

He left all hid kit behind when he went back to Oz and i managed to grab one of his bats, a kook surge pro players. it was incredible, grainy pingy and massive. annoyingly also had a huge crack in the toe which was why he wasnt bothered to take it home. i used it in nets for a bit then it completely fell apart.
