2021 Pad Weights
« on: October 17, 2021, 08:32:53 PM »

Hi All,
Looking to buy some pads for winter nets. Long time since I needed to research pads.
Internet very secretive about advertising pad weights for some reason and very koi in replying email questions.
My current pads are 800g each and hoping to a tad lighter in a traditional style.
‘Lightweight’ & ‘ultra-lightweight’ means nothing as sent back DKP as weigh 950g felt more though to be honest.
And I see Newbery dearest range are also 950g. The more you spend the heavier they get?
What are you all gliding between the wicket in?
Newbery N series look a good price if anyone has weighed them?
Many thanks

The pad database post, above this one is the best resource available. Be sure to add to it, if you get anything that's not on there.

This is about all we have on here.

What I would say is that most pads are very similar now in terms of looks and weight.

Who knows what changes there will be most the British standard fiasco.

With games played in coloured clothing increasing, I don't think it would be a bat thing if companies consolidated their offering in terms pads and provided more choice in colour instead

I've been toying with bringing in more colours, but the last time I did a run of odd colours they sat in the stockroom all season - the vast majority of teams use Navy or Black so these are the only two I stock as standard now in the pads and gloves. Custom colours are always available on request, but you've got a month or so lead time and realistically it'd need to be at least a few pairs to make it worthwhile.

Only downside with consolidating designs is it just kills any sort of brand individuality/innovation - over the years I've found the decent brands are constantly pushing one another to release improved versions of previous softs which pretty much always results in a better end product for the user. If everyone just offered the same design then that'd stop almost overnight (BSIF take note...)

without covid i think there would have been a lot more demand for coloured pads, we delayed our t20/sunday kit order because the games all got cancelled so i never bothered even looking for some.

Hopefully next season all will be back to normal and i can get no runs in pyjama  kit as well as whites
