Been up a few weeks, at the moment I'm doing a few for friends so just a hobby really. Hoping I can get the chance to do more and more, so basically making to order really so i don't outlay too much!

To a degree a bit of both. Of course it's only my opinion with each one, but I prefer the bat to play well rather than look perfect. As I say it's just a hobby I'm hoping to be able to develop more and more and learn, and I didn't want to say too much as i've been practicing, and as I was a little scared of being told they are rubbish! I hope they aren't though.

Do you grade the bat before making it or after you've made it?

You'd probably be better off sending a bat to Talisman to look at he's seen more bats then you can shake a stick at!

I don't really mind if the grains are not completely straight or if there are 10+ grains, etc, but I want it to feel and play well, that is the most important thing to me, how well it performs for the individual. Obviously in an ideal world it would look and play great, but I want to get to the stage where you are getting the best performance possible from each piece of willow and allow the player to get the most out of it. Hope that makes sense?

Sorry. I try to do both, but my aim is to get it as good as I can when finished, so for example if I have a piece that is not great looking and feels a little heavy before hand then it would start out a lower grade based on that, but I will try to get the best from it and will reassess when complete, of course it may stay the same or even get lower. I am certainly not claiming to get it perfect, but trying to do the best I can and learn a skill I think is great, and at this stage make something that I am happy to use.

Obviously I'm stil learning more and more as i go and at the very early stages, so any advice appreciated.

I like the aircraft branding - is there a RAF connection in there somewhere - are you based near Coningsby perhaps?

As I write this I'm sat next to a Typhoon Front Fuse production line!

Ha Ha, yes, bit of an aeroplane fan (another hobby of mine!) and from an RAF family, and yes, not far from coningsby! Was kind of aiming for a traditional (spitfire) and modern (tyhoon) bat hence the names, thanks for the positive feedback.

Front fuse, very cool! would love to have a look at that! BAE?
