First attempt at bat making
« on: January 06, 2022, 02:00:27 PM »

Hey everyone,

I chose to make a cricket bat for one of my school projects from a part-made cleft which had a handle attached to it. First time doing any real wood work and the tools I used were a hand plane and a sander. Quite happy with how it turned out for my first attempt but definitely lots of room for improvement. Thanks a lot for all the help I got here on the forum, lots of great advice.
Here are some pics:

Finished knocking it in, need to play it in now. Not the prettiest cleft but it works for the first attempt. The profile was intended to be a low sweet-spot but I think I left a bit too much wood at the bottom. Weighs in at around 1215 grams and picks up alright. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Top stuff mate! Only way to learn is to give it a crack. Hope you enjoyed it and take whatever you've learned from this one onto the next.

Great effort! And thanks for sharing. As someone who has recently got completed hooked on making bats, I hope that you enjoyed the process. I have found that it gets easier with each one, although I end up just wanting to keep making another one even better, or a new and different shape. And I quite like the look of the cleft too - did you get the part-made from one of the forum sponsors?

Yes loved the process and would definitely do it again if I had the chance to. Thanks a lot

Yeah definitely loved it. I sourced the cleft from a teammates father who has dealings with some bat companies in India.

Thanks a lot mate. Appreciate the feedback.
