Following on from a few different conversations I've had lately, wanted to satisfy my curiosity on this.

On account of not being particularly tall, I've played around with different bat lengths - SH, Harrow and some weird and wonderful combinations (3cm shorter blade/1cm longer handle AND inch shorter blade/standard handle).

Just wondered what the kit badgers of CBF are using in terms of the weird and wonderful, and what the reasoning is for doing so?

I have only ever used inch shorter blade / standard handle as a different option, that was the 1st Newbery Kudos model they made, it was meant to be to aid pick up and so you could put more wood in the striking area etc... I know that is a long standing debate on here however. I found the bat to pick up brilliantly.

That was quite a few years ago, and i have gone back to standard lengths.

I�m about 5�8 and last few years have been using customs from B3 that have a harrow length blade (540mm) with a standard mens handle, so about 15/20mm shorter overall. I�ve also used shorter blade/longer handle combos with the �knob� on the handle cut down to achieve the same type of result.

I just find it is more comfortable to use/manoeuvre, with the added benefit that I can have more wood for the same weight in that combination. I have another internal debate going on whether I should really be using 2lb 9 given I�m a lot shorter and less strong than pro players who use the same weight, but that is one for another day!

So pictured are my assortment of different blade lengths.
V12 - 560mm blade
JN Garrard- 530mm
and the rogue stickered bats - a heavily adjusted B3 1271 and Mongoose Cor 3 both in 510mm blade.

I'm all for a shorter blade, if a maker keeps weight higher in the blade they can pick up great

Trott shape with a 510mm blade, imagine that goes like the absolute clappers...

Interesting point about keeping weight higher in the blade, definitely found that my short blade bats have benefitted from thicker shoulders and a more even spread of volume.

�It�s like a brick on a stick� was a comment from one of the old boys at the club. Certainly not worried about thin shoulders splitting with that bat.

Did you get it initially made up with a shorter blade at B3 or was it all shortened after getting it?

I got it from B3 back in 2015. Was initially one made up for Scott Elstone, as a Trott shape with a different handle shape. So standard length. I used it for a while before deciding to get the shoulders dropped having used the Cor3.

I've been using a shorter blade bat for a few years now, I get on pretty well with them. My main bat is 53cm blade 84cm total, my "least favorite" bat is 55cm blade 85cm total, and the backup bat is 54cm blade and 85cm total. Saying that I am 5 foot 4 if I've done a morning stretch. Would anybody happen to know how to upload photos on the forum? I'd love to share some photos

I did before I realised shorter blades existed! As a taller chap at 6ft 4 I thought it may help. It just made for a skinny bat�

Yep, I�m 5�9 and also use a shorter blade and longer handle kookaburra.
I�ve used a TK made Talisman (IYKYK) with the same spec.
I like it, I can switch between that profile and a regular sh bat no problem though

I�ve a team mate that uses a LB stick, feels a bit odd. My brothers a giant and has a LBLH from Aldred. Problem is, as stated, that you don�t get a very impressive looking bat if you want a normal weight. It goes well though.
