Steve Smith...
« on: March 02, 2022, 04:03:23 PM »

Two things... He has ditched the foxy thigh pads for some new remfrys...
And also has sanded off the corner of his bat... I wonder if we will see a return to the 1970s toe shape with a more rounded inside edge like this...

What is the purpose of this? One side for running the bat in?

That would be the only half sensible reason.

Always good to see some of the pros are as bat sheet crazy about their kit, particularly bats, as we can be.

There’s plenty of us on here changed from two grips to one then back again, reduced the weight by an ounce only to then find it’s too light, and finally changed to a different brand as the stickers were not right.

Sooner or later you realise these tiny changes are all in the mind  :)

Wasn't it for at the bottom of your stance?  When your facing and the bat is resting on the ground, the bat is not straight up so it was more level with the floor.

I thought I remembered it being for sliding your bat in, but thought the difference used to be more dramatic than the bat shown here. Maybe he likes to save that tiny bit of weight on his inside edge only? It comes through slightly faster than the outside edge, therefore playing with a straighter blade. I genuinely hope it isn't because of that though, because I'd worry he's lost his mind.

It's surely for sliding his bat in, not sure there would be any other reason for it as the weight difference would be completely unnoticeable.

This would possibly be the most ridiculous mental thing ever! 😂 Can't see how this would actually make any noticeable difference.

Maybe he just likes the way it sits, maybe its because he had a small toe crack and decided to sand it away, or maybe he's unlocked the key to batting for all?! 🤔

Oh, I completely agree. Absolute craziness, and he needs sectioning if that is the reason.

Or it could just be that the bloke on the sander leaned a little more than usual on that side 😂

Could this bat be a Keeley?

Honestly it's probably this. JP Gavan fixes his bats and that corner could have been a bit tattered so he sanded it back. Making something out of nothing IMO.
