Aussie Gray Nicolls Giant
« on: March 06, 2022, 10:01:09 AM »

Just before Christmas I was lucky enough to pop via @Chad  abode on my way up to Edinburgh with the Mrs, to drop some kit off and perv at some bats.

This guy lives the dream, a fantastic collection and I was lucky enough to prize this from his hands, as soon as I picked it up I couldn’t put it down. The pick up is fantastic.
I’m not sure I will ever do it justice, it is a fantastic bat. I have used it in a few indoor nets already.

So here are the specs.
Weighs in at 3lb3 currently with the way I have the grips. Is around 3lb with one grip.
Edges. 30mm toe, 41mm max, 27mm shoulder
Spine max point is around 60mm

A few pictures to do the talking, Chads piano would have been far superior!

Those Giants certainly do pickup well, only problem is the actual deadweight is realised after actually using it in the middle/nets

This was indeed a fine specimen - willing to bet it's only gotten better with some knocking. Compared to Giants that I saw when in Australia, the pressing on this wasn't nearly as soft - so felt very nice and responsive. When I was in the shop, there were a pair of Giants were being knocked, and the toes just all delaminated as they were so soft.

I've got team mates with these and haven't seen any that are soft, but they are all newer models - perhaps this was a 2019 issue?
They are cheap as chips in Australia, people buy them as a T20 bat then realise that bat speed trumps weight every time and sell them for A$200.
