First bat shaping attempt
« on: March 09, 2022, 09:17:17 PM »

As the title suggests. I have been wanting to shape a part made for quite a while now, but haven’t got around to it due to a few things. I loosely based the shape on the Gray Nics giant, but had to make a few tweaks to the shape as it was never going to be as big as that! I don’t have all that many tools currently, but will grab a few more for my next attempt. This was done with a drawknife, flat bottom spokeshave and a no4 plane.

Weighs 2.13 and I have left the handle very thick, I do need to reduce this as now it’s bound it’s too thick for me, unless of course somebody wants to buy it instead haha!
Enough of my waffling, here are some pictures I grabbed at work earlier.

Big fan of that toe shaping, much prefer it to a completely square toe.

That looks like a monster! Really good job - the finish looks great. And I agree about the toe, it looks nice.

Would love to say I thought of it myself but there is a few of the guys making bats on here who inspired it!

Well done mate top effort for a first bat and please don’t sell it, there is something about using a bat that you made yourself especially your first one. Still use my first attempt and I can say it wasn’t as good as this one turned out buddy

Agree with the comments mate, great first effort as I've already said.

I'd also echo what Chris had said, definitely keep your first one. Mine hasn't been used and maybe never will, but it will remain in my workshop forever i reckon.

Top work mate!
