2022 County Champs
« on: April 14, 2022, 10:26:27 AM »

As there isn't yet a topic...

Round 2. The farcical ECB relationship with the CC continues, with Anderson and Broad resting(!) along with Mahmood, Overton and Leach starting their season late and Crawley batting at 3. Wouldn't it be nice if it was taken seriously!

Personally, in the long term I see Crawley at three so I’m not totally opposed to that. The rest of them having a rest is a bit strange though.

Good starts for the batsmen, I wonder which few of the hundred scorers are going to have a sniff at the national squad.

Why shouldn't Kent bat him where they want to bat him? It would be 'not taking it seriously' if they didn't. It's a County Championship not a County England Warm--Up.

Forum favourites Virdi and Moriarty have started the season in Surrey 2s.

Has it come to that? You score a hundred in county cricket and you're in with a chance of an England call-up?

If you're scoring hundreds you're putting yourself in the discussion at least. I don't think he was suggesting every single batsman who got a ton should be called up...

Personally don't mind Crawley at 3 as I think he's really not an opener. Lees and another attritional batsman opening up would be my preference for the summer tests, Crawley 3, Root 4.

I thought that was what the general consensus was at the end of the West Indies tour, pick the people in form. If that is the case then anyone with a 100 in the first week should be at least under the microscope to see how they continue to get on in the early part of the season.

I also think Crawley will end up 3 and maybe Burns or Sibley come back in, or another name starting the season well.

Ollie Pope should not be 4 for Surrey, I know it’s only one batting position but if they want him to play for England he has got to move up.

Been a lovely day here at the Oval, but bizarre that Vince elected to bowl on a flat one. There's nothing from this Pope innings that we don't already know...

That and I am not sure he holds the bat right with his top hand.

The Bell-Drummond one may be of more significance. Quite likely to be a Rob Key favourite?

Well Crawley is doing his best to get dropped. Walking down the wicket in the 4th over and nicking to the keeper. Just no temperament as an opening bat at the moment in red ball. And yes I’m a massive Kent fan so big easy to say.

DBD is a great white ball player for Kent but his red ball is not even in the top 100 I would say in Englands reckoning
