In terms of players outside the squad meanwhile, Bracey has two hundreds already, one a daddy against a decent Yorkshire attack (albeit on a bit of a road), and Harry Brook has a ton and two fifties in three knocks.  I also note than Henry Brookes is back bowling for Warwickshire and looking decent.

Bracey notably scoring runs at 3, not 7. Hopefully the ECB selectors wrap their heads around that little tidbit.

Does Bracey even keep for Gloucestershire?

Think he has been keeping this season, but I'm sure they've played him as a pure batsman in the past.

Lawrence is injured too.

Is he? He's playing in current Essex match and played in the previous ones.

Sam Curran not bowling today. Obviously been restricted. Don't like.

To be fair he kept OK against us.

He seems competent enough. Wouldn't select him for England as WK though, much rather see him given a top 3 spot. Bohannon is another one I wouldn't mind seeing given a chance.

Given Key has talked about separation of the red and white ball setups, I wouldn't hate it if we saw more of a divergence between red and white ball squads.

They've more or less diverged themselves really - Bairstow, Stokes and Wood are really our only three format players now, with Root and Woakes playing red and white ball.

Archer and Mahmood I would expect, if fit, to be involved in red and white ball also. Think Stone has played both too?

Not opposed to players playing multiple formats but you do wonder if picking players more naturally suited to red ball might be the way to go longer term.

So early impressions of this weeks matches -

Crawley doesn't seem to have scored a run this year has he?

Lees out cheaply

Broad got a bit pumped

Jimmy seems to have woken up.

Will be interesting to see how the day pans out.

I briefly forgot what to 'get pumped' meant.

You never forget what 'get pumped' meant if you've been 'pumped'

I sound like a broken record but Jamie Smith is the real deal. Everything just looks good.

Also nice to see SCurran showing what he's capable of with the bat when it comes to FC cricket, much more like it when he first came on the scene
