Applying bat stickers after bat wax
« on: April 20, 2022, 01:00:49 PM »

I wanted to darken the wood a bit, so have applied bat wax after removing the scuff sheet and the stickers. I've given it 2 weeks, now applying the bat stickers back. However, one the stickers (at the back of the bat) isn't really sticking on properly, obviously due to the wax. Any suggestions on how to stick it back? Also, is it better to put a scuff sheet back on with edge tapes or not? The edges are a bit rounded. Thanks.

Little bit of superglue round the edges of stickers are only just lifting a bit.

What do you mean with the scuff sheet? I would apply scuff sheet then edge tape over the top personally.

Thanks. Only half of the sticker is sticking and the other half is lifting up.

Some people recommend not putting scuff sheet at all, hence my question. I'm not sure if it'll stick after the bat wax. I'll try to stick it on if still recommended.

I would always put a scuff sheet on if you want the bat to last longer. It doesn't make the bat perform any worse and it can extend the lifetime of your bat and prevent some of the worst damage.

Best option would be to give the edges a little hand sand with a fine grit scuff 400-600 really helps the scuff stick, same again before you reapply stickers but if already done a small amount of super glue will be fine

Yep, as @SOULMAN1012  said, dry off excess wax/oil and ideally leave the bat to air for a while. Then sand before applying. I'd use a slightly coarser grit, depending on the finish of the bat obviously

2 ways I have used previously got old stickers back on (maybe there is a reason not to use these ways, please let me know if so).
1. Spread a thin layer of PVA where the sticker will go.  Let it dry, seems to help make the bat surface a little stickier.  Doesn’t always seem to work but definitely work a little bit. I then do the superglue thing round the edges.
2.  I spray carpet adhesive into a pot and then wipe it on the sticker and the bat (I don’t spray directly on the bat and sticker as I find it very hard to control volume and direction).  Let them go tacky and then push together.  Seems to work well.
