As the title says, what is the least you've ever paid for a bat that turned out to be a gun? I don't want to know if you were ever given a bat from an ex-pro that was good etc etc (You would expect it to be...), but, what was the actual physical amount you paid for a bat that just turned out to be, silly good.

The more exotic the story the better, for example (this didn't happen to me but could be something like...) Found a bat at a car boot or in a charity shop, that looked horrific but flew, or, you purchased a really low-grade top brand bat for around £100 and it was the best bat you've ever owned.

I know that the price of top-grade willow is through the roof currently and bats would have cost much less years ago, but putting it into perspective to today's sort of prices.

Looking forward to some great replies

I'd bought a Chase butterfly bat in their £70 bat deal a few years ago that I sold onto my club and has been used by a variety of people to hit about 5 fifties in the last couple of years. Nothing remotely special about it spec wise, it just seems to have an absolute dream of a middle.

That was a great deal. I ended up with a lovely piece, but sold it as it was going to just sit around. Im tempted to go butterfly with my choice few bat next year.

Not me but a friend had a Malik bat that must have cost under 50 quid back then. Ugly looking thing... I suspect it was butterfly stain but I didn't know what it was back then, but pinged like mad.

For me I used to have a CA gold that must have cost similar (gift from dad so FREE  :D, and I know he wouldn't have spent loads of money on a cricket bat). Performed amazingly well, a team mate kept borrowing it, in the end he just bought it off me. He ended up buying a CA bat after that.

Chase butterfly for £75

Also a county bat for less than a ton which was epic.

Not me who bought it but a few years ago the club chairman bought a Slazenger V600 from a charity shop for a tenner, now everyone uses it and it's the legendary club bat. It has hit the highest ball in the air I have ever seen, you could barely even see the thing it went so high!

Still using my £10 Black cat (maybe it was £12 - I forget) week in week out that I picked up from the local car boot. Fabulous, fabulous bat and I don't think I'll ever sell it.

Have purchased a MRF winner KW bat, just to try how KW performs. Got it for 2500 (25pounds) and its really a steal. Performance is a steal and still one of my go to bats

a Slazenger V800 fusion from Sports direct. Accidentally popped in whilst wasting some time with the missus in another shop. There were a few and they had been reduced down to £47, I think Infact some had been posted on this forum. I had a look through and one stood out, it was bigger, had zero concaving, a handle that wasn’t too thin. It was definitely a mislabel back at Sondhi. Got to the till and it has been further reduced down to about £30 i think. Thought definitely, took it into the nets and it very quickly became my number 1 for a couple of years. Absolute bargain!

That I used for a while was a GM Haze from Amazon. 606 grade and from memory was £67 used it for a season and half and scored over 1000 league runs with it.

Others include some Slazenger SD specials and also a Choice bat from a forum net there, must be over 10 years ago and Gary charged me £90 for it with some pressing cracks. That was also a serious gun bat

Broke my bat mid season and picked up a cheap replacement from Sports Direct for £30 - I think it was a Slazenger? - took it along the next Saturday.

Wasn't going to use it but I took a few throwdowns and it pinged so nicely I gave it a go, and scored a really enjoyable ton with it. Little punches easily cleared outfielders.

It snapped in half two games later.

Picked this Puma up off eBay for about £35, think it was originally a pro direct exclusive grade 3 model. It wasn't bad, a little heavy, pinged ok but wasn't knocked in properly when it came to me. Thought about moving it on but eventually rebound the handle, took a little out of the toe to lighten it up a bit and match the pickup on my favourite, and kept it as a backup bat. Great advert for sticking with a bat, after a couple of years of nets/friendlies/wet games it became a proper belter.

Best bat I've ever had was....Free.

A guy who played for us worked at Chase and in one game my bat broke so he gave me one of his 'old ones'. My god, it went like a train!!

I'm putting it down to being used lots and played to its peak as I got my hands on it.

No bat has ever come close to it but I think my bats just need more use/knocking in.

Pictures of some of my bats below with a focus on my new Kite bat. My current Kite goes very well so hoping this one will too!
from Left to Right:
Vyper - Tapian - not the most Ping, think it needs more playtime.
Chase - Volante R11 - old match bat, again not as Ping-y as my old one mentioned above. Think again needs more play/knocking in.
Kite - MMXXI - Current Match bat. Great pick up and ping and getting better!
New Kite MMXXII - Bought because I have no self-control and I love their stuff.
Chase - Value Bin Bat £100 - Bought as was grainy as hell. Had a knot in so they played around with its shape (has the scoop out the back) - Performance...I can see why the scoop isnt a modern shape...

A £2 Newbery bat picked up during car boot sale. Was a rocket while it lasted.

2nd hand bat, €3. Turned out to be quite a good bat and so good that a teammate ended up buying it off of me.

Newbury Uzi players, £60 off ebay. It just flew, but like at typical cbf sold it to a team mate a few seasons later. Always regretted it since  :(
