Bat making class at my Highschool
« on: May 05, 2022, 07:52:27 AM »

So I started a bat making class at my school here in NZ.

Boys paid for a grade 4 cleft each that had a handle attached.

I provided the tools and a bit of help and they have been working away on their bats that they will use next season.

Absolutely loving it so far.

This is just so brilliant.

Fantastic!!

@potzy248  - is that you holding the cleft in the 2nd picture? Somehow I pictured you as a bit more 'fresh-faced'!

@FattusCattus haha na I'm behind the camera. That's Colin Henderson of Centurion Cricket. He used to make bats for Newbery.

That's a relief - he looks like he could murder you in his sleep!

Fantastic work - great job on this. So important for the craft that more people learn about how bats are made using traditional tools. Could be the next JM, TK, AK or JL that happens to stumble across your class! 😁

Thanks guys. Yeah its working well.
We are working out of a Maori wood carving class. The work stations obviously work perfectly.
I have a few videos so will post them up at some stage.

Our only problem will be the supply of willow as I hear it is getting pretty tough and more expensive.

Great idea that Potzy.
Could also use the tools/techniques/workstations for bow making, if you can get some suitable wood
