Awesome. What school is that? I used to be a technology teacher at Wellington college before moving back (worse decision ever). The curriculum in NZ certainly allows for more specialist skills.
Could extend it by making a tavisher, actually fairy straight forward with a forge and the materials are inexpensive, get a few made with different radii for more/less concaving. Use threaded inserts to hold the blade…… I’m getting excited now. Great post.

@Gurujames Tauranga Boys' College. The school is great, I also use American Low and slow BBQ to teach Maths (I'm a history/ Psychology teacher). We have a big BBQ to cook meat and sell it to the staff. The school is big on alternative ways to teach which is why they let me do this bat making class.

That's a cool idea about travishers. I'm trying to think of other things we could make that would mean I could do it for a whole year. Cricket bat's wont take long and although a grade 4 cleft is much cheaper than a new bat it is still expensive compared to other subject options at school. It also counts out a lot of students due to cost which is something I hate about education. Maybe some sponsorship could be an option to help with costs.

Thats absolutely brilliant - Im 50 year old and was crap at woodwork at school, i'm sure if someone suggested we can try making bats etc, I may have shown some interest
