Best choice for getting a bat copied
« on: May 11, 2022, 06:43:49 PM »

I recently dug out an old Gray Nicolls Evo Carbo out of the garage and remembered why i loved it so much. I bought it from a forum member and used it in my best ever season where i scored 9 50s and a 100 at an average of nearly 40 :)

Anyway, it's got a huge crack and is past repairing so please give me your suggestions for where I can sent it to get a replica made? B3 maybe?

Got a pic of the profile? Some batmakers just have a real affinity with certain shapes, so hard to recommend!

@richthekeeper any batmaker mate, depends on where your based, be good to go local to select your cleft.

You have the following:-
Northern Monkey -Oxfordshire
Owens cricket - Wales...
Reaper -  bucks?
H4L - Kent
JEDI - Yorkshire
Red Ink - not actually sure without googling.
Church cricket - brighton (moi)
Another guy on here can't remember name...Solomon..

Bat copies are pretty easy..but picking the cleft is the fun part for you!

*I say bat maker...but podshaver...not going into semantics about the difference.

As Rich says more or less any batmaker can copy a shape for you, B3 will likely be the most accurate due to being machine made, but, anyone can do it for you. If you are local to me (Berks) drop in and I can take a look at the bat and you can pick your cleft too.

Drop me a message if you want to discuss.

Cheers

If you are going to have it copied, think beyond just the shape. Keep press in mind as well. It'd be easy to copy the shape but it may not open up (ping) for a year or more. Bad for "average".

It is a GN shape, Kranzbuhler would be the best person to copy it.

This is a really interesting topic. I'm thinking about getting an old bat copied, so would be good to hear about other peoples experience of custom copies.
