New club website
« on: September 19, 2022, 08:03:25 PM »

Hi,

I’ve volunteered to drag my Sunday side’s virtually non-existent web presence out of the 19th century over the winter. We’re a small wandering club that plays only friendlies. I’m reasonably IT literate though no web design experience, and hoping I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew… I would appreciate any pearls of wisdom from anyone here with experience in this area.

The obvious potential starting points seemed to me to be either Pitchero or ECB play-cricket, or perhaps a combination of both. I’m aware of Pitchero’s capabilities when it comes to managing player availability and selection, and it appears it also supports scorecard management though I’m less familiar with this side. I’m very familiar with play-cricket’s extensive capabilities when it comes to managing scorecards. I thought that was all it did but discovered from its help pages that it does also appear to have player availability and selection facilities.

With this in mind, since I’m pretty much starting from scratch (the club has a very old obsolete site which uses neither of the above), what would be the best way to go in your opinion? Intuitively it feels like it might be best to use either Pitchero or play-cricket for everything rather than a hybrid of both. Or are there any other options? I’ve seen other posts on this board mentioning spond and teamer, but know nothing about them. Don’t think it matters if it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles but simplicity would be good, both for myself setting it up, and for members using it, many of whom are a bit on the senior side so maybe would be daunted by anything too clever.

Thanks in anticipation!
