GM Player edition suggestion
« on: December 26, 2022, 03:47:21 PM »

Hi

I’m looking to get a GM players edition and my need is mid to low profile. As I don’t have direct access to these specific profiles but I got some options as below

James Vince PE - grams 1146, 1151, 1160, 1230

Dan Lawrence - grams 1150, 1160, 1171

Devon Convay - grams 1165, 1172, 1208

Aiden Markram - grams 1150,1167, 1186 and 1195

Which one of these profile Mid to Low based on your hands based on your experience and I hope most of those GM PE bats feels lighter than the scale as I understand?

I've had the Vince and Markram and they were exactly the same shape. I've also seen the Stokes and its the same as these. Must be the Pro shape that most use. The Conway and Lawrence look pretty much the same from those photos.

The De Kock, Head, Trott, Watson, Smith and Taylor were all different and back when I really loved them. Now they all seem to be the same shape. Similar to GN's Players shapes which are pretty much Identical.

Yeah, these ones (and Stokes, and Pope (in SB) are all basically the same shape and I’d not call any of them low middled

Thank you both!

Couple of questions..

Cricketbatinfo YouTuber (Mark) review showed Aiden Markram is bit low profile compare to Ben stokes. Looks like very limited difference based on the response here.

I prefer the weight around 2.8 usually. However since it seems low density willow offering 2.8 mark bats with players specs, do I need to be concerned of breaking the toes easily? I had toe breaking experience with my GM diamond signature before, will it help by adding bit of weight to the wood helps sustain bit more impact if any.

Will there be any noticeable difference between L540 and L555 blades? Dan Lawrence profile comes with L540 but looking nice grain willow on it :-)

You’ll be lucky to find any of the above PE bats at 2’8. How we I don’t think you need to worry (more than normal) about breaking toes.

L540 and l555 is very different

Some people can never get used to it . You would need to try and bat with a l540 before buying I suggest

Markram is a slightly lower profile

I guess is also depends on your level and whether you will notice any of the above
And how fussy you are in terms of bat choice

Can't say I've noticed a huge difference shifting between slightly shorter and regular length blades.

If you take your grip relative to the shoulders it will take more getting used to than if you take your grip from the top of the handle so that's worth considering.

Great that a Dan Lawrence Player's Edition has better looking grains than Dan Lawrence's actual bat.😉

Thanks for all the responses guys!!

Just wondering how the prices are cheaper in US stores compare to UK ones though the GM bats manufactured in UK? Any idea?

I checked few US store prices which are cheaper than most UK prices.

Might have to also add sales tax to the figure quoted on the websites - I'm not too sure... Profile wise, Markram, Stokes and Vince are all very similar, if not identical. There will be small variations as they're finished by hands, and potentially different people. The Dan Lawrence is pretty much the old Root profile from what I can tell, and the old Pope I'm not 100% sure on. Probably more of a mid-low profile on the Stokes, and more mid on the Lawrence. Where are you based?

I'm sure @mycricketgear also reckoned that Oz got the best of the PE bats and US the dregs, may be remembering that wrong though.

Well at least they get them. NZ doesn't get any.

I’m based on Australia. The price shown in website inclusive of tax and shipping was free.

Not sure about if the US stock will be less quality but I was thinking GM standard of quality should applies across their production. Anyhow, I placed an order for Chroma James Vince PE (as below) from US and it’s on the way.

Thanks for all the responses.
