What is it with the wheelie duffle these days? Seems to be a common complaint but I guess they must be selling given they seem to be taking over the market, but surely they're getting to the point where they're just a wheelie bag that happens to have some straps on. Does anyone even sell a basic duffle anymore other than the ones aimed at juniors?

H4L do a cracking range of non-wheelie duffles, Red Ink have a suitably massive one for CBF types, think the big boys all do varying sizes of duffle too!

I know you can still buy non-wheelie ones, point is the market seems to be going bigger and bigger. Very hard to find a bag that isn't enormous but still has basics like a separate footwear section.

Yeah true, it's definitely harder to find a small, simple duffle for one set of average kit than I remember it being even a few years ago.

The issue you have if you're a smaller brand only offering one or two bags, is that you need to try cater for everyone. Not having wheels may lose you sales, but having them doesn't mean it can't be used as a duffle. Personally, it really annoys me when people take kit out of std duffles and the bag just spreads all over the floor (especially in tight changing rooms). So i prefer free standing ones to save space and also protect kit a little.

My first bags were pretty big (like 95x40x40), but there was feedback on here that someone still couldn't fit all their kit in. So maybe better to have more room than not? Appreciate some people will want smaller bags and they are out there. However, i feel people are taking more kit than ever these days and so bigger bags are generally required by most.

Yeah, I have half been on the hunt for a middling sized duffle, with no wheels and loads of pockets, but like most kit I buy I don’t really need one, would just be nice.

I have the GN Ultra (Aus model) and I find it the perfect size for me. The equivalent in the UK is the team 550 duffle.

Has helmet, shoe and clothes pocket, 2 external pad pockets, side mesh pocket and small side zip pocket along with a valuables pocket, main section and a bat cave.

Here’s my GN Ultra loaded up with

4 pairs of gloves
Batting inners
Keeping gloves and inners
Stretton fox Arm guard
Aero Box
Rapid arm
Kookaburra Pads
Remfry thigh pad
Shoes
2x bats (can fit 3)
Helmet
Ayrtek hybrid
Remfry wrist guard
Oakley Sutros
Whites
2x socks
Hat
Towel

Plenty of room left over too, but too much where the bag is sloppy

Lovely colour scheme on that bag, much nicer than the GN bag I used to have.

Does anyone have a recommendation for something that is quite small/light, but good quality and can fit a basic kit in?
I’ve got a main bag, but prefer something lighter for travelling on the tube to nets etc. with just basic kit.
I was using a cheap Slazenger one, but it’s started to fall about now (as expected!)
Entry level shrey duffle is really well made

GN 550 is probably the best medium size duffle

Yeah I’d agree with that. I find it strange that we have the exact same bag over here in AUS, but they called it the Ultra instead.

90x38x38 is mid size? Seems pretty big and it's the same size as the Legend and the 750 is only 90c40x40.....suppose @edge was right! 😆

Yeah it’s definitely not a small bag, but most duffles were similar size (at least in GCCC and Whack Sports).
There were a few that were slightly smaller but as I still sometime keep I was after  something that could hold my keeping gear if needed. Rather  have slightly too much space than be jamming it full. This bag also had lots of pockets for separating gear, which separated it from the other duffles I saw, so I was willing to go for it despite its dimensions.

The best part of a duffle for me is storing it in the house. Even thought it’s not a small duffle, it still takes up minimal room and I can just put in the corner of a room. Much, much better and more compact than a regular wheelie equivalent
