There seems to be some common themes with the pros us amateurs often overlook:

The handle Ponting explains has to be a certain feel and shape.

They often keep a number 1 bat regardless of how many they carry around.

With bat prices going into orbit maybe it�s time to look at tips for keeping them going as long as possible.

Harder with the modern bats as the only way to get them so big is over drying in my opinion anyway

Imo brands and batmakers need to buck the trend, educate the masses that big doesn't equal better and therefore be allowed/able to make bats which last longer. However, everyone now measures everything to within two decimal places of a mm and the younger buyers have only grown up with big bats, so it's expected i think (to some degree with most people).

Do people (buyers or reviewers) ever question the willow, moisture content, or quality of the handle? I think theo focus more on size etc. So I think people look more for that and just now accept they'll pay more for their bats, more often.

I'm probably referring to "brands" here, but there is absolutely no reason for them to do this. Big bats flying off the shelves as they break- sounds perfect. They sell loads of bats and the players get the big bats they want. Where's the benefit to anyone making a smaller bat that no one wants to buy- probably even if they are told it's 20/30/50% more durable. You probably have as "educated" a customer base as anyone selling bats- does anyone ever question the willow beyond the grade/#of grains? If they're not asking you, you can be sure they're not asking a shop assistant/owner. Even the smaller boutique brands such as yourself probably wouldn't get much mileage from it.

If you skip to 4:24 in full screen whilst paying and keep your cursor still (so the bottom bar doesn't appear), you'll see Pontings bat in Maxwells hands with 4 dowels in the inside edge. If the graphite was meant to add strength, I don't think it worked on this particular bat haha
