Not sure I will ever understand people buying a property next to a cricket ground and then complaining about... Cricket being played. I get that damage can be caused but why buy there in the first place:

We had an ongoing issue with our ground as its literally surrounded by neighboring properties. As such we had Labosport who are an ECB-affiliated company come and do a ball trajectory study based upon the standard of cricket being played on the 1XI pitch.

For ref our boundaries are about 60m in all directions when playing on the central pitch, we have gone up 3 times in the last 3 years and had Glos/Somerset 1xi players playing at the ground so this meant at Pro level we were told we'd need 16m high netting to stop them. We compromised at 8m with them in the end and it cost us £6.5k to erect it before we played again ian COckbain in the 1st game of the season last year after 3 years of "discussions"

As a trustee of the charity that looks after the ground the risk of an injury occurring to a neighbour would ultimately end with us being liable if they were struck when in their back garden. As such we've erected something they are happy with and we've been pro-active at trying to reduce the risk of injury at least.

However when one of the houses in the firing line sold for £770k for a 3 bed semi-detached house and they use a picture overlooking the cricket ground as their sales pitch its funny how the extra £100k they pay to have 4 acres of privately manicured garden they have access too comes in handy!

I read that in the paper this morning. Some very self serving people about sadly. The Cricket ground has been there over 100 years.

I think there is a petition which I am trying to find and sign

There’s nowt queer as folk as they I think up north.

Up till last year we lived 100 yards from Fulham FC. For premiership games it was a pain, thousands of fans coming down a narrow residential street, upturned bins,floodlights on that lit up for miles around and people parking in residential parking spots.

All that but the club was there before we bought the flat and indeed before the block was built.

If you don’t like it,or cannot put up with it living near a sports ground then don’t buy there!!

What’s wrong with some people  :)

Sounds like Councillor Doreen Lee has done you proud there!

Im not in the construction industry but Im guessing you must have a bit of nerve, and possibly stupidity, to build houses to completion without having the correct permissions?

And what would happen if the appeal fails? The houses stay vacant? Or will they have to be demolished?

I think this is a lot more common than a lot of the general public realise. It just depends on the club by club specific circumstances and then how it gets dealt with. Eg. What the actual neighbours are like, how strong the club committee are, how much money they have, have they got any council backing etc etc..

We have neighbours at one end of are ground and it's a fairly short straight hit slightly downhill making it shorter as well. We have had some problems with them but ultimately we had to put up netting (which to be honest a lot of players clear and if playing on the end of the square can be useless for LH) but we showed the intent of doing it and with grant money we were able to do it.

They'll have to be reversed, in theory anyway.

She certainly has, for the time being at least. The developer has caused endless problems for us and continues to do so. Threatened to block Yorkshire water in as they were down to re connect our water supply that he had cut off 2 years ago, just an example

His date for his appeal is approaching so we are sitting tight. Whole thing is a farce and stinks of corruption

If buildings built that fail permission or used for not purpose they can be ordered to be torn down but usually councils give in to a compromise as had it here when someone built an out building for storage was found living in it in clear breach but got a compromise offer

I hate these type of things as it’s clear what it there and what might happen but how many realtors sell a dream to home owner saying “balls never come over and ground hardly used” then some fall for it

We are extremely fortunate we have a 100 year lease in between farms which has to be used for cricket so as long as we keep farmer sweet which we do then all good but have played at a few local grounds where this is happening more and more

Do we think the increase in sixes and boundaries is a factor? Not sure here but I have noticed more attacking over last 10 years and only growing with t20

The first cricket box was used in 1874.  The first cricket helmet was introduced in 1974. So, it took 100 years for men to twig that their brains were also worth protecting.

UPDATE - The Colehill club committee have now reversed their decision as long as the £35K can be raised for the netting to be put up. They have set up a crowd funding page.

Measured it out on Google Maps and it is really small - only 50 metres or so to the closest houses, and even some of the ones on the other side of the road are only 75-80m. The ones bordering the square boundary must get hit a lot.

Have played at clubs with a tiny boundary and massive protective nets before and there's always one neighbour! Good to hear they might be able to keep playing.
