Ban v Eng ODIs
« on: March 01, 2023, 09:55:28 AM »

Its been a bit lost amongst the NZ Tests but the series started today and for the first time in quite a while Wood and Archer are playing together in an international fixture. Bangladesh 209 all out. Lovely.

Despite the Test just finishing I would actually say that Wood, Woakes, Archer, Ali and Rashid is probably Englands best white ball attack. 4 of them are double WC winners and the 5th puts the fear of God into everyone he bowls at. Add Curran as a 6th in England or a spinner like Jacks or Livingstone whens its turning and its a very dependable unit.

Conditions dependent, I'd throw Topley into the mix as well. Been very effective in the absence of Archer.

Spin attack looked very disciplined today which is a great sign.

Sky Sports team mentioning how on earth they pick the 15 man squad from this side, YJB and the guys in the Test Team. Be interesting to see how we fit everybody in but not a bad predicament to be in.

I’m the biggest Roy fan going but I don’t think he’s going to get a sniff come the World Cup.

Yeah no way he gets in at the moment unfortunately, he has been on a bad run of form for quite some time now.

Roy still doesn't look good against left arm spin, can't see him being picked on spinning wickets, especially not when everyone will be picking SLA bowlers.

Its easy, if Stokes makes himself available and is fit to bowl at least a part of his allocation.

Bairstow, Duckett, Root, Brook, Buttler, Stokes, Ali, Curran, Rashid, Wood, Archer plus Woakes, Topley, Malan/Hales and a reserve spinner, either Ahmed or more likely Dawson.

Becomes immensely difficult if Stokes stays retired, or cannot bowl.  Then you are stuck either banking on Ali plus Root for a full 10 (and any cover our injury prone quicks require) or playing the extra bowler and batting Sam at seven, which feels a spot too high for him.

England in a spot of bother with this chase.

I also think Eng will have to move on from Jason after this tour. Tough as he was the catalyst for Morgan's revolution.

You do wonder what klind of player Bairstow will be when he comes back with one leg longer than the other.

Malans agency is getting better and better. This type of pitch/opposition has long been Englands downfall.

From Bangladesh, I was very impressed with them in the field today. Extremely sharp.

Just watched the highlights. What a game.

Totally agree about the fielding, @dantsw13

Malan is repeating the trick of forcing his way into the t20 team all over again isn't he, how long before he's the world #1 ODI batsman too? Joking aside, he's surely opening the batting at the world cup.

Will make his running between the wickets harder just going round in circles

I have to watch the highlights on YouTube or similar and most of the presentations are shocking, and about 5 mins long.

Does anyone have a link to a decent source of highlights?

Clicked on what I thought were highlights the other day and it was some weird computer game version of a one dayer. Really bizarre.
