Middle Positions
« on: March 04, 2023, 11:50:40 AM »

I am having a little trouble in describing middle positions, is there a general rule of thumb for describing mid-high, mid-low and low etc?

For example, if the "sweet spot" was 190mm from the bottom of the bat, would that be a mid middle, a mid-low? If the spine extends lower down the bat could that mean that a middle is more of a mid-low than a mid? I know a picture like the one below says more than the words of mid/mid-low etc but it is more for my personal understanding more than anything.

I would like to know what a few of you would describe this bat's middle position as.

It looks to be mid high middle, it's pickup should be lighter than its weight.

I would have said that bat has a mid to low middle.
An old school GM Flare is an example of a bat with a high middle.

I think the B3 website has a few images that can help.

190 I'd say is the lower end of mid middle, agree with Buzz that bat looks mid-low.

High middle with no weight left in the top half of the bat and a skinny handle will pick up like an absolute dog. Jonny is spot on, not as simple.

My point was as Jimbo said, just because it's got a mid middle it doesn't mean it will pick up better than a low middle. It depends on many factors

My low is 175mm from the toe, mid 200mm. It's all perception really, as some feel low is 190, mid 220 etc

It looks to me that it is a mid high middle bat, therefore it should feel lighter than it's weight.

That does happen sometimes but it is not a certainty for every bat with a higher middle.
