Getting hit into the sea
« on: April 16, 2023, 01:04:22 PM »

Anyone got any grounds where you can get hit into the sea or river or anything else obscure?

Please post pictures!

No pictures but my last 2 home grounds had water hazards

Ashorne (Warwickshire) has a brook that passes in fron tof the pavilion, between the pavilion and the ground

Chesterfield Barbarians (now Ashover Barbarians, Derbyshire) play at Walton Dam and that has a reservoir all along one edge

Bude CC in Cornwall you can get hit off the cliff onto the beach but it would have to be a very high tide for the ball to get wet!

Whitecliff Rec in Poole, overlooking Poole Harbour.

Hit one or 2 on the full in there before.
Not a bad place for evening cricket but not the best for a full Saturday

We have a brook just outside the boundary which is a very very achievable straight hit. We probably get the ball wet at least 3 or 4 times a game even with a fence in place.
Its hilarious watching the unlucky ball fetcher wading in.

There is also a local ground (Audley end house) which is a beautiful setting but the pitch slopes downhill to a shallow river full of goose (No Swearing Please)!

Budleigh Salterton in Devon. Choice of either the sea, or the River Otter estuary.

Fond memories of cricket tours there but not seen anyone reach the sea......with their new ground it will be even harder!

Sidmouth close by might be possible to hit the sea via a lucky bounce in the road

I didn't realise they had a new ground until I googled them yesterday. Do they still use the old ground? I had a fantastic tour match there a few years ago. Classic tour match, I was 12th man, nursing a hangover, and then got brought in to bowl in both innings. Got both our skipper and their overseas out with some absolute filth deliveries.

Don't know as we've sadly stopped touring - think issues were the constant flooding. Some great grounds down that way....Exmouth being one

I visited the area in spring a few years back and the BS ground was underwater

Looks like they had enough of the flooding  https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/flood-hit-cricket-club-near-7556876

Shame for them to lose their ground with all it's history but new ground looks awesome and all funded too........shame my ground is  not on a flood plain as we badly need to move owing to lack of space and neighbors lobbying against cricket being  played.
