Zak Crawley looked amazing in 1st inning but threw away his wicket in the second. Lot of potential for greatness there.

Bairstow not even moving there....

To me, he doesn’t look match fit. Very lazy!

I can see these two chasing the tubs down themselves if Warner gets going.

Foakes must be livid at home

How was that anyone but Bairstows catch!

Kept us in the game first dig

But cost us dear with the gloves

Deserved his slot as a batsman where he's been so successful under this coaching/captaincy. Keeping wise, it's shown the flaw in selecting an inferior keeper who is still recovering from an extremely serious injury.

Quite - it should never have been an either/or between Bairstow and Foakes.  Jonny is one of our five best batsmen and Foakes is our best keeper.  However you make that work - whichever of the top three for this game you leave out (because really it has to be one of them) and whoever opens - you have to go with the best you have.

Obviously they aren't, and I am also a bit of a fan.

Exactly the point some of us are making. Bairstow had an unbelievable 12 months as a batsman so had to come back in.

No one says it’s easy but pick you best 10 players and then the best keeper batsman, not batsman keeper.

Someone has to move up that’s how it is. Anyone saying Crawley is a better test cricketer than Foakes needs a talking to  :)

Pick the best 11 including a keeper batsman is the point myself and @Manormanic and others are making.

Crawley has not done enough he is dropped making 1 spot.

One of the top 2 other batsmen moves up to open. Not ideal I grant you…but needed. Brook stays where he is as he does not have the experience.

Even Stokes could move up.

No one I’ve read on here thinks Bairstow should not play that would be madness.

Got to ask if JB continues to keep like this match how much will he be in credit by the end of the series.

I'll let Stokes and McCullum select the team considering they've won 11 from 13 and broken allsorts of longstanding records along the way.

England to win tomorrow afternoon by 40-50 runs after a delayed start.

I'll let the pundits predict the score as they've got far more experience commentating on cricket matches than I do  ;)

To be honest, given how his performance deteriorated from the first morning (not Foakes, but decent) through the evening (me, if I still played), you'd have to wonder if he will even make it through the series fit. And this is another point - with the bat he is hugely important in all three formats, so why are we damaging his long term prospects making him keep?

Genuinely, it doesn't matter who you drop - I'd assume one of the openers, since Pope is vice captain - nor does it hugely matter who is your make shift opener, whether Pope moves up and Stokes or Root bat three, or whether Foakes (or even Ali) do it to make up the numbers.  The point is, Foakes is the man most likely to change a game in the field (I'll allow him the first Carey drop, and the second barely cost a run, but Foakes would have gobbled the stumping and that cost 36 on paper and more in reality) and Jonny is in your top three with the bat.
