Hey all played my first game back in about a year and went to have a swing at one hit it pivoted to much on my back leg, and my knee gave out, leading to a dislocated knee and LCL where i need to have an MRI to see if i will need surgery.
Anyone had this happen to them before? would like a bit more insight into what happens from now on.

That sounds unfortunate and horrific

Is the mri soon (uk) ?

Was it just bad luck this happened, I have seen some individuals get very unlucky wiyh injury this year , you would never think swinging a bat would lead to a knee dislocation

Would like to hear more from others and perhaps ways to do your best to prevent common injuries , are you more prone after a certain age in cricket ( guess any sport )

yeah Mri this week in australia, dont think my age had anything to do with it being 20. But wont know if i will play again but if i do i will strap the hell out of my knee

Horrific injury,,unfortunately speaking from experience.

I did mine diving for the ball on a very hard outfield.

Also batted with a chap, who went to pull the ball, and his knee dislocated,,,absolutely horrendous to watch.
He was probably six foot five,,twenty stone,,big chap
His knee,was sticking out sideways,,it took two hours for the ambulance to arrive, in which time the knee cap had gone back into its original position.
I�m afraid long term, it wasn�t good for him playing etc..
But that was over twenty years ago,,,I�m sure there are better treatments these days..

I ruptured my PCL playing rugby last year mate, I didn't take the surgery option as it was only one ligament and the surgeon said usually with just 1 of the 4 out they don't surgically intervene. Took me 3 months of rehab to play my first game and being honest I was probably a month earlier than I should have been. No pain now apart from the odd day, and still playing rugby semi professionally, so don't give up in your cricket too soon!

Sorry to hear about the news - knee dislocations are pretty nasty injuries (understatement). Working in the medical field associated with orthopaedics so hopefully can give some insight

Usually for true knee dislocations, multiple ligamentous injuries are involved such as / not limited to ACL, PCL, collateral ligaments, menisci, posterolateral corner. Clinical exam can give some general idea of the extent of structures injured but is often limited by the pain, acute swelling and joint effusion immediately after the injury, so mostly the MRI is needed. Your surgeon will go through this with you, but once again depending on the structures damaged and also if there is any bone fracture, ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair,/shaving collateral ligament repair may be required. Depending on the surgeon's opinion, some may suggest doing it in 2 separate surgeries (collateral and meniscus repair followed by ACL reconstruction a few months later) while others may do it all in one go. Afterwards a long duration of rehab and physio is required to build up the strength and mobility, and if all goes well hopefully a return to cricket and other sports

The above is for complete knee dislocation though. If it is just a patella dislocation, the prognosis is better and may not require surgery, just bracing and rehab.
