It’s been a couple of years since I bought any new cricket gear and I got an itch to buy something… given that I don’t really need any new kit I decided to get a hybrid sweatband from @Ayrtek Cricket.

Ordered it on Wednesday evening and it arrived today.

I won’t post any pictures because it is exactly how it looks on the website.

Now I’m wearing it playing shadow shots while pretending to be working.

'100% Handmade by Andrew Kember' - what's going on there then? Had a read to see if things have changed but my god the new Salix website is confusing.

The Stuart Broad Players bat looks absolutely lovely, bet they don't waste ones that good on him! Normally I'm quite scornful about pro players shapes being of any relevance to clubbies, but in Broad's case maybe not :D

The Nitric of the ACID range is made from start to finish by Kember, while the Fluoro is made from SS part mades AFAIK. I don't know where I saw it, must have been a comment, but agree, the website doesn't make this clear. (It might just be the Nitric G1 and Pro grades from memory) And yeah, the Broad ones are really very nice, at least the ones I've seen have been both looks wise and profile wise. The Ben Ducketts are also excellent with the SBLH setup.

That's absolutely bizarre. G2 stickers have the same text on them as well. The website is so bad it's actually aggravating, you do hope everything is alright at Salix.

Right then... Happy Christmas and all that.

What new kit have you all got?

Santa brought me a pair of 2024 Kookaburra Ghost Pro pads. Each pad is about 100 g lighter than my Keeley Superior pads, and they feel much less bulky. The stitching seems really neat all over.

Even though I think I probably prefer cane-fronted, these are already the best pads I've ever owned, just from the simple fact that the straps aren't way too long and I don't have to double them back on themselves. Never understood what thunder-calves they usually cater to.

Also started to modify them as well - taking the Kookaburra logo patch off the middle strap, as I thought it looked a bit out of place, and I also prefer more of an unbranded look. Realise that I might have too much time on my hands over the break...

ps this also takes me into my happy FKW place, as pads and gloves now match.

How heavy have you measured the 2024 as? I have the 2023 model which looks identical as far as I can tell - and they are about 950/1kg in small adult. They are really good quality though.

Yeah, same - 975 g each. I will update the pad weight table when I get chance, but they are still lighter than my previous pair. And they seem really good - nets start next week so will test them - obviously way too good for what I ever face!
