Recently got asked by a mate (a top-order batter - guess no-one is perfect!) about best gloves to protect the fingertips. He suffered a fracture of the fingertip having taken one on the end of the fingers on the bottom hand, not the padded top bit (just a bit of thickened leather tab), and understandably worried about future injuries.
I have seen prob 2 glove designs this year which seem to address this potential issue, but have not had any first-hand (pardon the pun!) experience of either - wanted to reach out to the collective knowledge/experience of the forum to see what people think about design/protection/comfort.
The two gloves I've seen available currently are the H4L Tip-tech gloves, and the Kookaburra Kahuna Pro Players gloves, both of which aim to protect the fingertips, in different ways from what I can see from pictures online.
The bottom hand thumb-end protection has been addressed by a number of different manufacturers already (Kookaburra and Gray Nicolls come to mind), with the curved end section on the thumb to protect the thumb-end, with plastic/fibre inserts, and this seems more common on many of the higher end models nowadays.
I also remember Monty Panesar (among others) using some kind of modified cricket box on his bottom hand to protect his bottom hand fingers, which prob also curved round to at least protect to some degree the fingertips. I haven't seen it since (couldn't find a pic online to demonstrate it), or anything similar tried by anyone else, prob because flexibility would have been hugely affected.
Any thoughts? Any home-mods people have tried to help better protect fingertips?
