Test two starting tomorrow.
Hopefully it will be a better contest although Trent Bridge looks a bit green.
The pavilion will be renamed the Stuart Broad pavilion which is a lovely touch.

for the sake of test cricket we need to have more games going into day 5 with all results on the table. my fear is the gap between strong and medium test sides is getting bigger and bigger, possibly due to ICC allocation of money and (understandable) focus on white ball money.

its that or they will need to start games on a friday to guarantee the saturday and sunday punters see a game

I agree, a Friday start seems more desirable if games struggle to get to a 4th/5th day. Presume it is tradition that dictates Thursday starts (albeit we now get some Wed starts)? However, if it two "strong" sides playing, then the business end should be by 4th day so you would want that to be on a weekend. Does this risk oppostion being "put down" even before the series starts by virtue of starting day being moved to a Friday? Another psychological advantage to the stronger home team?

I understand the reasoning behind dumping Anderson and starting the planning now for the Ashes next winter but it is hard to see in what basis Chris Woakes is being picked here. He was never an option outside of England at his best and he is  now bowling at the sort of pace Derek Underwood used to fit them down at.  This surely was the time to identify a candidate to bat at 8 next winter and give them a summer against modest opposition to settle in the team

I'm sure it was done on purpose by the Eng management to allow generation of lots of podcasts and discussion on this forum, as the sole reason!  :D

Root and Brook both awful shots, other dismissals have been pretty decent bowling. Just a shame the Windies have been so inconsistent.

If a no hoper like Ollie Pope is conning a century it devalues the entire sport.
