Slipped in nets - was it my cheap shoes?
« on: July 13, 2024, 12:15:00 PM »

Hey guy

I was batting in nets on Wednesday when I played and missed at a ball which went behind me. I turn around and went to the area behind the stumps where I bent down to pick the ball up. Unbeknownst to me there were few leaves and a bit of mud which caused me to slip. My right leg was stretched to the max and as I fell and I heard a pop. Couldn't get up no my own. Went to the urgent treatment centre where they diagnosed it as a medial hamstring tendon tear. I am not out for 4-6 wks and on crutches. It was a freak accident and could have happened to anyone but I felt like my shoes should have held up better and prevented me from slipping so easily. The nets have an artificial turf strip. I have spikes for matches and bought some slazenger rubber pimpled cricket shoes for £30. The link is below:

I am looking at other rubber pimpled cricket shoes which seem to have more prominent pimples. I feel like they may have helped me stay up better or prevented me from slipping as easily. I have been looking at the adidas 22yds boost shoes. Again link is below. Will these have made a difference and is it worth buying a pair or was it just a freak accident which could have happened to anybody wearing anything?!

Has anyone used the Adidas 22yds in a match (non-spiked version)? I was after a lighter shoe (I bat and don't bowl) but not sure I'd get on with these. I've used rubbers in games before and tend to slip a bit but these seem an upgrade. I just can't work out if it's more of a gimmick or a decent idea as there arne't many reivews online.

@OP - as Ayrtek says, you can get last year's model at around the £85 mark. As for your injury, I hope you recover soon, it reads like it was a freak accident and not much you could have done about it.

Footwear is a personal preference. If you want some and can afford some then knock yourself out. They should last you longer than trainers.

I can’t imagine they would have made much difference to slipping on leaves and mud though.

Some on here will use them. Some will just use trainers and we will all have an opinion.

Just go with what you want to wear.

The Boost shoes from Adidas have been around for about 7 years now. I've had multiple pairs over the years, i only wear them for matches. They aren't much good in the nets to be honest.
