Best ever check drive / cover drive seen
« on: August 05, 2024, 08:35:13 AM »

As the sad news of Graham Thorpe's passing is announced, just got me thinking, who do you rate as having had the best check drive and cover drive shots?

For me, the best check drives are probably (in no particular order), Graham Thorpe (obviously!), Kumar Sangakkara, and Graeme Hick.

The best cover drives (again in no particular order), Sangakkara, Brian Lara, Virat Kohli and the little Master (Tendulkar).

Who are your favourites?

I.Ron Bell of course. And if we are allowed to think leg side, Tendulkar's check drive past the non striker is just perfection.

Michael Vaughan. My favourite captain as well. Turned out to be a ****. Doesn’t change his aesthetic cover drive, batting in general or captaincy.

Check drive? Hayden / Tressy / Flintoff. Maybe Symonds? Check drives are difficult

Tendulkar especially to Brett Lee, and Damien Martyn. Both of them with perfect balance and elegance.

That lofted one from Kohli a few years ago in the IPL. Still can’t believe it’s real.
