Aldred’s New ‘Budget Range’

Saw this new announcement by Aldred saying he’s thought of a way to sell some bats for the £185 mark by using wide/wavy grain clefts.
Which I think overall is great news. He mentioned years ago not using grades 3-4 willow. Which I didn’t really understand how he could pick & choose deliveries as its known you get a bit of everything delivered.
Will be interesting to see how these come out overtime and hopefully perform no differently to other ranges.

I do wish I bought an Aldred years ago but never got up there to try them. Just for the now dying thicker handle sake.
Suddenly bats have doubled in price which you could never predict so quickly.
It is nice to have Kember and Aldred etc all acknowledging entry level prices are wanted by their trusted eyes & hands. Particularly when keeping 2 bats is nearly the norm now.

I am a bit of an advocate to youngsters to tell them, its not what you know, but who you know when it comes to cricket bats.
And I hope these Aldreds are another ‘I told you so’ British range to rely on.
Good to prove you can still buy UK made with love bats for cracking prices!
Let me know your thoughts

Not sure selling lower grade clefts for lower prices than higher grade clefts is really a particularly new idea...

A lot of makers sell the clefts they don't fancy onwards. When supply is exceeded by demand (as it is at the moment) they're will always be a buyer.

They won't catch us this time! Not this time! They haven't spotted us! No, they're all snoring in their bunks! Or, you know what? They're drinking at the bar, celebrating our sinking! Not yet, my friends. Not yet!

I mean, it's not an unfair price but if someone is on a real budget I would still be pointing them to the GM 606 or Signature ranges.

Or you could just buy an X3 grade from me which is the same price, includes knocking in and isn’t a random marketing ploy to sell the lowest grade clefts to customers to get them thinking they have a bargain! So many brands are selling the lowest clefts for top dollar at the moment, it’s madness!

Pretty sure there are a number of brands like me offering similar prices g3 bats without the story behind it so plenty to choose from without having to resort to the marketing BS.

It did feel always like the chap is doing customers a favour but really lining his own pockets and marketing the story …

Not a bad idea as long as the bat performs and is durable.

I think he is absolutely wrong that bats out there under £200 aren't great.  No question pricing has exploded in recent years but there are still top bats that can be picked up at affordable prices
