Pope seems like a player of great innings, rather than a great (ie consistently excellent) batter. He's played some of my favourite innings of recent years but he's also played some of the most frustrating ones.

Not sure why Pope is getting all the grief here when Lawrence's shot was dreadful. Duckett was ridiculous. Root's shot grim, just before the new ball... That is the top 4 chucking their wickets away. It is an absolute road.
450 is par here not 350.

In fairness, Pope has yet to make a run this series. Lawrence is batting horribly out of position, Duckett has made a few, and Root has (crap shot aside) just played a potentially game saving knock.

Agree with the Lawrence wicket, had a chance this series to make a claim to get in the side with runs against a mid tier test team and that shot today was awful. Slim chance I know to get in with Stokes and Crawley both missing through injury and Pope looking like no matter what he does he will be selected as he is now vice captain but again Lawrence shot was dreadful

Surely Roots not getting grief because he scored 143?! 😆 Joking aside, Lawrence is inexperienced and shouldn't be opening. It's a tough ask, so gets some leeway. Ducketts shot wasn't great, but he at least made a start. Pope is frustrating, as he just seems to be scrambled more times than not. He's obviously got the ability, but maybe it's a mental thing?

I was being a bit toungue in cheak about Root (but not that much)
The point here is our top order are batting like tail enders. And playing crap shots to get out. It is really odd.

Is that not basically what they've done since BMac took over?

Duckett I thought basically did what has been asked of him. Lawrence and Pope played awful shots though.

Pope shouldn't be captaining this side.  It is a curious choice.

Whether he should be in the side at all seems genuinely in the balance to me.  For someone coming in at first drop, he fails early in a very high percentage of his innings and plainly his technique fails him against higher standard bowling. He would be better suited to batting down the order but he isn't going to displace Root, Brook or Stokes so if he does play he has to bat at 3

Agree with a lot here but should not be given an easier ride to drop lower

If he bats 6 and averages 60 that would be fine by me 😂

Why’s everyone ‘slandering’ Ollie Pope?
Thought I was merely a bitter old Aussie for pointing out Pope was rubbish…

Guess it was too cloudy for Pope to score runs today.
48 tests average 34. Pathetic
And it’s even worse when that sham double hundred against Ireland is removed.
