My mate (who's much fatter than me) got him out in club cricket the other week, not sure the next natural step after that is to open in a test at the oval.

Get out at any level .. takes one error of judgement

Whether you playing div 10 recreational or test

Rory Burns would have been the form pick.

I was listening to the bad light debate between Vaughan and Cook on TMS earlier.
Must say I thoroughly agreed with Vaughan’s comments to change the colour of ball. Don’t see why a pink or luminous red ball can’t be used to save play delays. Especially as tickets are the £100 mark now.
Any thoughts on bad light?
Needs solving or just part of the part the game?

No. Just no.

No. Just no.

In a different era he might even have been seen as an ideal stop-gap captain.

Alex Lees wouldn't have been a crazy pick either...

If this test were the decider in an Ashes series, Keston Jennings, Alex Lees and Rory Burns would all better options to have opened in this test but given the situation in the series, there seems little point bringing back one of the over 30s who have demonstrated they aren't good enough at this level.

Rob Yates looks the best of the younger openers on the county circuit to me and is having a good season. hasib hameed is also playing well again although probably not the dynamic the current set up would go for

By that argument, Adam Lyth would be an even better pick!

Of the county circuit, the one who has impressed me most has been Ricardo Vasconcelos, though I am not sure if he is yet qualified.

I 'pushed' for a Lyth recall around the time Lees was selected.

Vasconcelos is a good player, but is only just starting to recapture the form he showed when he first burst on to the scene.

I fear we lose integrity if we become happy to lose Tests in the name of developing players.

Long way from in the game, but that was some grab from Bashir.
