How to Stop bat grip from sliding up
« on: November 18, 2024, 04:42:34 AM »

Hi all,

Wondering what the best method is for keeping a bat grip in place and preventing it from sliding up? This is an issue I deal with fairly frequently. I have been using electrical tape at the bottom of the bat however this is quite ineffective.

Ive seen suggestions here and there that using glue underneath the grip is very effective. Am wondering what is the best way to do this, am just concerned about making a mess and damaging the binding etc.

For anyone who has done this, how much glue/what type/ where and how to apply etc.

Or any other alternative methods too.

Much appreciated!

Grip Grip tape will sort you out. I use it on all of my bats as I like the cleaner look compared to taping the bottom.

Where did you see about the glue suggestion ?

heard it mentioned by a couple team mates in passing, and have seen videos that briefly suggest it. Not much more info than simply stating to use glue tho

I use this, have done for a few years and it works well. Just as well as grip grip, but way cheaper.

+1 for the self-amalgamting tape! Never had a grip ride up with it.

Anyone any idea what causes some people to suffer this and not others. I have some teammates that basically half remove a grip as soon as they pick up their bat, but mines sit in the same place regardless of how long i use it for.

A few things I would say, could be any of...

Size of the handle
The binding/string used
Grip on the bat
Aggressive nature of shot making
Temperature

These are just what I can think of.

Another vote for this. Changed a grip over recently for one of our juniors whose dad had glued the grip on and it was an absolute nightmare. Used bats from Jonny plenty and never had issues with the tape not keeping grips in place.

You can also use straight-up double-sided tape. It just makes things slightly more difficult when you want to change the grip.

Only addition I’d make to this is when you lean on the bat. By that I mean when you’re tired and you tap down but might pause. The act of pushing down on the rubber creates a stretch and recoil type scenario.
