Shaun Pollock light yellow Slazenger V600... help!
« on: January 21, 2025, 06:18:48 PM »

Dear All,

I am hoping someone can help me out. I remember Shaun Pollock using a "highlighter" yellow Slazenger V600 bat in the early 2000s or perhaps even the late 1990s. I remember seeing it in a catalogue and from memory I believe it had some sort of hollow design in the middle of the cleft (not visible to the naked eye) - as a weight reduction method?

I have scoured Google Images for a while and can't seem to locate images of this bat.

If someone could please provide any information, this would be much appreciated.

Is it the original V800 bat with the "pair of eyes" scoops in the back you mean?

Hello mate,
No, it was absolutely a V600. Certainly not a V800.

Also, I am new to this forum; do you know why I persistently have to type in letters to verify myself in addition to completing a cricket trivia quiz??

Welcome to the forum, health warning first ⚠️, it's def a rabbit hole getting onto the site!!😂

I haven't come across a standard yellow V600 before - was it in a UK catalogue or possibly a special for SA or AUS? Other than that suggestion I'm out of ideas but sure some clever bud on the site might be able to point you in the right direction.

As for the letters and quiz, I've know eye-deer!

Wasn’t the v200 yellow?

I accept this may not be helpful.

Welcome to the forum @DavidBrent1.
Could YouTube help jog our memories?
I seem to remember the V800 in yellow stickers with holes drilled out the spine but filled with dowels. The stickers covered the dowels. Looked a bit of a butchered mess with out the stickers imo at the time.
But gave GN scoops & Sabres competition. A mate of mine had a fine V600 all in green/teal stickers with a lovely traditional convex dome shape profile.

Was the bat used in a famous innings during a particular series or World Cup??
I’m just wondering if it didn’t release in the UK out of respect for Ben Hollioake at the time?

Good morning all,

Thank you for taking the time to respond - however, we aren't at the bottom of this one yet! :D

I seem to remember the bat in a catalogue - either Morrant or Cricket Direct or something... it was 100% a Slazenger V600... and the marketing gimmick was that it was lightweight. To the naked eye there would be no discernible differences (cutaways, scoops etc) as the inside of the cleft has been hollowed out.

As a timeline of events - from memory - Pollock used: Green Slaz V600 > Red Slaz V600 > Burgundy Slaz V600 > Slaz SE >Retirement

If anyone has access to cricket equipment catalogues between 1998-2003 (I'd estimate) then that may solve this innocuous problem that is irking me!

Be surprised if there was a yellow V600, given that was the colour of the V600 and we seem to be taking about the same time period.

The only other (very) yellow (Australian Gold) one I remember was Michael Clarke's when he was still with Slazenger.

I’m surprised not a single player or series is renowned for using a yellow V600 on YouTube.
If you ever find your beloved yellow sticker V600 @DavidBrent1 what are you going to do with it?
Is this for a bat copy?

Hi all,

thank you for taking the time to respond.

I collect Slazenger bats and this is the only one I don't have! I am 100% certain this exists and that it was a V600 - the colour was a vibrant yellow and green mixture almost. I want to say it was called hyper something...

I will continue the search for it - perhaps it was only available for the South African market?

All the best,

Maybe reach out to Slazenger who could confirm which model/item it was and if it had the hollowed out system? It might have been a special for local market only.
