Nathan McSweeney's new bat for the Sri Lanka tour.
Not a pretty one...

Haha I saw that too, clearly must perform brilliantly on the ole ping test. I’m sure Dinger has looked after him

Genuinely, I would really struggle to use that bat. Maybe I am much more of a bat snob than I thought. At the very least I would have a fibreglass scuff sheet on it do cover up the face. 😂

But if it is a super light cleft and pressed perfectly, who knows.

That is a commitment to performance that most players, forget pros over looks for sure.

Bit like a Tim Keeley bat, if you told me who made it then I'd probably be all over it.

Yes I’d buy it if graded and priced as it which is probably a G2 or maybe a G3

However would be marketed as “pro” so priced at stupid so no I wouldn’t but if was picking it up and liked its feel couldn’t care less what it looks like

Id use it if given to me for free. But would I spend 900 USD to buy it? Definitely not.

Also for all its cosmetic defects, this must be a low density clefts. Otherwise they wouldn't have gotten these specs. In the retail market, most ugly bats like this are ugly AND heavy - a definite no no.

Not off the shelf as a consumer, unless it was sold as a G2/G3.

If however, I was a sponsored player, and it was recommended to me by a reputable batmaker from the workshop I wouldn't question it at all.

My bat for next season is a Mids handpicked from the factory and has 6 to barely 7 grains. Picks up lovely and is starting to open up, hopefully pre season nets will get it optimal.

I still adore lovely clean grainy bats but i find I am not as fussed as I used to be.

Not the most attractive bats but there would be plenty of willing buyers for  bags of this size

If it picked up nice and pinged, I'd have no issue buying a bat like that. As long as it was priced at G3 level, then why not? Looks mean nothing really, just that you'll pay a hell of a lot more

Those handles look incredibly skinny to me compared to bat specs. I can appreciate why heartwood and blemishes were wanted to add a bit of strength to the bats. I assume Sri Lanka pitches are very flat dead & dry, so blemishes probably help the ball ping off them. Perhaps he asked for butterfly bats but these clefts were the best available at the time.
I have no issue with the looks of the willow if so lower grade. Those handle and bat specs it isn’t for me though if was on the shelf.

May be overthinking it mate with the blemishes and heartwood for the flat dead and dry pitches.  :D  Density is probably one of, if not the highest priority for the clefts Lachie uses for his pros - anything else would be down to player preference. Could very well be that Sweeney just likes heartwood.

My two cents, if the head batmaker at Kookaburra Aus is making these for a test player, I can guarantee there would be people willing to pay a premium for them.

If priced reasonably, then yes, I'd buy it. G2/G3 price would be a good price for me.

I’d 100% pay top dollar for them. Been lucky enough to get my hands on a nice collection of used pro bats and whilst the willow is often less aesthetically pleasing, the performance is consistently outstanding. I need all the help I get get from a bat, so happy to take performance over looks every time. My wife said something similar but I’m not sure what she meant…
