"Custom" batting gloves
« on: March 01, 2025, 08:25:14 AM »

I have been looking for a batting glove that I feel most comfortable with, looked at most gloves from the main manufacturers over the past few years, prob the best I've had in the past were Puma ones (5000 models in various series). Nothing quite fits my fancy. Some ideas for the design I have are more retro and don't seem to be mainstream anymore, but maybe better pulled off with more modern materials, etc.

Now I was thinking if you can get custom bats made up, is there a way to get a "custom" glove made up?

Prob the batmakers who do own branded softs are in the know - who would be best to try and approach to get my own custom batting glove designed to my liking (everything from style, protection, palms, materials, colorways)?

Presume it is easier when considering a large number of units, but I'm prob looking at getting no more than 5 units (to keep me going for 3 or 4 season I reckon), and prob will be some manufacturer in the subcontinent, but does anyone have any recommendations (and contct details) if such a service exists?

Any ideas would be greatfully received.  :)

You'll struggle to find anywhere offering a truly custom design for less than ~40 units at a guess, gloves are more complex than most would realise so it just wouldn't be worth their time as one-off. Especially if you're wanting top-end materials.

The few suppliers that promote no MOQs, also then make you stick with the same stock design as everyone else which negates what you're wanting to do (and the quality is naff from what I'm seeing if I'm brutally honest). All suppliers are subcontinent based, a quick google search will find plenty of sources - you'll just need to make contact and see if they'll even entertain the idea.

Was a while back but me and @Canners had some Plain ones custom made to our colours. These were basically SG sausage gloves though with out own colours if that makes sense.

From memory think it was 30 pairs ordered and Ive just used my last pair! Devastated

As Neon cricket has said, it's very much doubt it would be worth anyones trouble. Unless the money was right, but even then it's doubtful. There's a reason why gloves and pads are very similar in design. I tweaked a fair amount on my softs, but was ordering a fair amount. Even then, they're generally based around a similar design etc. Bespoke anything generally means MOQs, increased costs and lead times. Embossed logos increase costs too.

What is it you want in a glove specifically that you can't get currently? Does it really impact your ability to be score runs? Is it worth throwing a large chunk of cash at it? Gloves aren't as cheap to manufacture as most people think. Lots of component parts

Thanks for all the knowledgable replies - greatly appreciated from all.

I've had issues with a previously fractured knuckle on the top hand little finger which is susceptible to vibrations and knocks on some of the tempramental pitches/outdoor nets I sometimes face (occasional good length deliveries rearing up unexpectedly). Even if it's not Eng ODI team rapid, all it takes is the 5.5oz cherry in the wrong place at the wrong angle to do some mischief. Maybe it's in part a confidence/mental thing (which plays a big part in anyones game), but was looking for more protection round that part, which is not easy to find in current "standard" shaped gloves, if I find something with a good level of the specific proctection (BAS players type gloves used by Kohli, etc), the fit is not right for me or pressure points on knuckle, etc. Sometimes the most comfortalbe gloves are the more lower end gloves but they lack some of the protection, leaving me feel less confident and therefore affect shot selection.

I have toyed with the idea of adding protection to existing models of gloves to "customise" it. I guess that would be the alternative. Have any forumites done that? If so what materials did you use, and where did you obtain those types/sizes of materials?

I have at various times over the years seen the professionals "modify" their gloves, usually after injuries, so that may be the option for me to consider.

Would love to see any modded gloves if anyone out there has doen so and using them, including what they found worked, etc.
